Apparently the CRD picks up dead animals...but not during nights, weekends and Statutory Holidays.

Gonna be nice and ripe by Tuesday.

Goldfish can live up to 30 to 40 years in proper conditions, and can reach the size of a football, according to the ISC.

Anyone looking to get rid of their goldfish can consider giving it to another interested person or pond owner, inquiring if an aquarium is interested in it, or contacting a retailer for advice on possibly returning or surrendering the fish, the centre says.

The ISC adds that goldfish owners should not flush the fish down the toilet “as it may pass disease to other fish species whether they are alive or not,” and reminds residents that releasing anything that is non-native into local waterways in Canada is illegal.

Maybe they should add a $0.10 deposit to the cost of your $0.10 goldfish, to encourage the responsible return-for-deposit of your pescadorian corpse.

Since it’s such a problem.

Can they scale this up if needed?

Sounds fishy.  Might require a deeper dive.

Anybody else want to wade in on the deep end here?

Senior attacked in Sidney by two dogs

The Capital Regional District animal control unit confirmed late Friday it is investigating the incident.

Right in the Sidney.  That's gotta hurt.

Aggressive deer kills dog in Oak Bay yard

The dog, a deaf husky/shepherd cross, had a puncture wound to the chest after being tossed by the deer and was euthanized.

We should not have deer in the city.    :badpc:    The only reason we do is "woke".  We never had them in the 100s of years leading up until maybe 20 year ago.

Here’s the press release:

Yesterday an Oak Bay resident who lives in the eight hundred block of Newport Ave., contacted Oak Bay Police to report their dog had died after an encounter with an aggressive deer the previous evening.

On October 30th, 2024, at approximately 7:30pm, the dog was in the yard of the family home, when a male deer, which had been eating vegetation on the property “bucked” the dog, spearing it in the chest area with its antlers.

The dog, a 15-year-old deaf Husky/Shepard cross, had been walking along the perimeter of the property and approached the deer while the deer was eating vegetation. The deer then lowered its head and tossed the dog.

The dog was severely injured and was taken to a veterinary clinic and euthanized after the assessment of the injuries, which included a 3-to-4-inch puncture to the dog’s chest.

Our thoughts are with this family as they grieve the loss of their family dog.

Animal Control and Conservation were notified of this incident by the dog owner.

A reminder to the public to give deer and wildlife space, especially during the fall rut and to report aggressive wildlife activity.

We need to “grieve the loss” of dogs now huh.
Dont get me wrong. I love dogs- had em all my life. But they’re dogs. Not family members. Thinking that way is a mental illness.

We treat the deer better than human beings. They’re allowed to wander wherever they please in Oak Bay. If a person were wandering around, sleeping in parks, they’d be removed from Oak Bay.

We have a pack of cane corso pups and adults living with some guy in Burgoyne provincial park, terribly dangerous situation, killer dogs and a mentally ill dude looking after them camping in the trails.

Progress has been made to get some of the dogs out, but last I heard they still haven’t dealt with the issue and the trails are closed.

Someone was swarmed a couple of weeks ago. Cane corso’s, no thanks.

Oh, I thought the SSI types believed it’s the owner not the breed? Interesting

Hah yeah they do until seven cane corso pups try to eat your dog.

Those dogs are not to be toyed with.

The crazy part is that parks, crd, police, etc can’t seem to get this dealt with. It’s been weeks,

We lost our animal control person when he retired. The housing is so bad here we can’t get regular working people like that anymore. We can’t even keep a crd building inspector here!

That’s terrifying. Is the guy a SSI local, or a new arrival?

Oh I couldn’t say how long he’s been here, but definitely not local. He didn’t just arrive three weeks ago with puppies if that’s what you mean.

I’ve been here 12+ years, still not a local. Only way any calls me “local” is if one of my kids marries one!
