I also find that the white brick looks more cream than white. I agree that offset is probably a bit timid.

Methinks birds roosting on those offsets might be a problem even as is. If the spaces were any larger you'd surely be getting ostriches up there.

Yeah, but in Toronto the llamas were intentionally introduced because they're the natural enemy of ostriches. It was a misguided effort to try to control the ostrich population.

The only difference in the brick is that it is offset instead of in columns. Take a look at the renderings in detail, not the thumbnail, and you'll see that what's being built is basically what was rendered. Natural lighting versus studio lighting is probably the biggest difference.

Looks like the lesson here is to stop judging projects before they’re finished.
I knew you were going to say something silly even before I finished reading it. Dude, if we stop judging things before they're finished, probably 98% of the posts on this board would disappear.

The other lesson to be learned is that not all renderings are created equal.

Yes, you need to have good bread and a hot pan.
Toronto doesn't have llamas, they have raccoons.

...you need to have good bread and a hot pan...
In other words, fat chance that projects turn out exactly like the renderings?

Does a completion of July/August look to be possible? Have they completed the exterior brick work?

It looks dated already...
It is called classic.

Methinks this one looked better on paper than in execution.

The problem with wood on the exterior that is simply sealed to look 'natural' is that it is a maintenance headache. Also, it generally darkens up, starts to look bad, and then ultimately gets coated with solid stain. Ask anyone with a boat, or a fancy wood door on their house. It looks great for a few years, but then regret sets in. Been there, done that, many times!
It's one thing refinishing a door at ground level, but quite another refinishing siding several stories up.

Am I the only one who still thinks it looks good?
Posted 04 February 2019 - 08:46 AM
Nope. I think it looks great. Different, which is very good in this cookie-cutter town.

It's hard to gauge a unique design like this until the building is finished. Everything that remains to be done visually detracts from the cohesiveness of the design, and to me the state of the ground floor tilts the balance to such an extent that it's far too premature to pass judgement.
