A third theft of copper has been discovered in the past few weeks with thieves making off with thousands of pounds of the metal. There is some thought that the crooks have been posing as BC Hydro employees using stolen uniforms.

I wonder if this is an inside job? I also wonder if the wire is being resold in the form of wire, instead of cutting it up and going to a scrap dealer. Whatever the case, the thieves are likely from the mainland, or further afield where the copper could be easier to flog.

The thieves have been hitting different municipalities each time. I wonder if this is deliberate- because different police forces will have a harder time coordinating their efforts against them, or if it's just a bonus for the thieves.

The Legislature was hit last night:

"Beaver, ahoy!""The bridge is like a magnet, attracting both pedestrians and over 30,000 vehicles daily who enjoy the views of Victoria's harbour. The skyline may change, but "Big Blue" as some call it, will always be there."

Once again...thieves go down manhole to pull wire.

Is this an inside job?

At $2.50 to $2.90 a pound for scrap copper, it does not take that much to make it worth

For interest, Canadian pennies from 1942 to 1979 have 3.17 grams of copper in them, meaning 143 of them are a pound. You can make money from collecting these old pennies. Pennies from 1980 to 1996 only contain either 2.7 or 2.4 grams of copper. Since 1996 our pennies have been either zinc or steel.

Yup, looks like they've taken the copper from that!
