I can't wait for Farmer to start the concrete, I can already see the fighting with Kinetic on this job. You might see me on the sidewalk with a box of popcorn

The pad for the Crane will be poured in about a week.
The crane will be up by end of Feb or 1st week of March.
Crane will be located by back wall of Capitol 6 building.
Crane will be the one used at Whole Foods.

I'd sure love to see this lot on Yates redeveloped:
Any whispers or rumours out there about the future transformation of this piece of asphalt?
Yes let's quickly eradicate parking lots!

For reasons that may differ from yours nagel, I'd love to see the eradication of all surface parking lots from down town Victoria.

At some point we are going to need a new parkade or two.

I'm not sure if it's just optics due to the narrow site or what, but the 819 Yates pit sure does look deep.

How about allowing buildings to go up to 25 stories (hey, it's Victoria, dream small) in exchange for providing additional public parking? If the city is serious about making downtown more pedestrian and cycling friendly they can eliminate some on street parking yet meet the needs of those who still want to drive downtown. We can't force everyone to take public transit, and automated vehicles will be increasingly environmentally friendly and need some place to park downtown.

Maybe this is the major downtown development announcement alluded to by Mike K before Xmas...?

Automated doesn't mean it's environmentally friendly. Actually some scenarios have been discussed whereby car usage goes up. You don't want to pay $12 parking downtown so you send the car home. you call it back at the end of the day. Driving has already doubled. You then stop 1/2way home to buy something. you again don't want to pay parking, so you have the car circle the block until you're done. Maybe the car also picked up the kids from school during the day too, so now they don't have to walk or bus.
I haven't heard this one before but it could be one businesses latch onto. you send the car through a drive thru, they scan something on the car and put the food in it. it comes back to you. you could do the same with practically anything you buy. it's like amazon without waiting or watching the UPS tracking.

they have been working on that for year it just takes time.
If you have not been in Victoria long you may not remember some of these ones, ones which were larger parking lots.
Parking Lots that are gone or going include,
Soveriegn
McCall Parking Lot (future)
Mondrian
Uptown
Convention Centre
Capital Park
1515 Douglas
Dockside Green ( Huge Princess Mary Parking Lot)
Y Lot Humbolt Valley

You can add Corazon to the list.
