Although public meetings are set for mid-June, Baptist Housing Society seems confident it will receive approval for variance requests that will see Oak Bay Lodge reach six stories. They've posted job ads on Craigslist for maintenance, activity, resident and marketing staff for the "Oak Bay campus". http://victoria.en.c...3027097592.html

FYI, there is already a thread about this: http://vibrantvictor...read.php?t=5443

Also, I think that job listing is likely for the existing Marion Gardens site, not any new Oak Bay Lodge site (which will be run by VIHA until at least June 2013 given the one-year move-out legal requirements.

Was at the Application for Variances on Oak Bay Lodge meeting tonight and learned three things. 1. They had to delay doing the ballon test on several occasions due to the strong winds. 2. They only have half the required parking spaces needed for the number of beds, so I assume they are buying smaller beds. 3. Most speakers don't know how long 3 minutes takes.

Capital Regional Hospital District seeks community input on future use of Oak Bay Lodge property
Jan 06, 2021

Victoria, BC– The Capital Regional Hospital District (CRHD) is seeking community input on the future use of the Oak Bay Lodge property. The CRHD is responsible for a comprehensive planning and consultation process for the future use of the property, and the first round of consultation is now open for public participation.

“Working with the community to reimagine the future use of the property is a high priority project for the region,” said CRHD Board Chair Denise Blackwell. “We look forward to delivering a project that considers local input and places the individual at the centre of care, supporting our long term goal for an improved healthcare facility.”

The CRHD is planning two online open houses on January 21 and January 26, 2021 to outline elements of the project and seek input from the public on regional healthcare-related priorities for the property. This consultation period will run until February 4, 2021.

The CRHD has completed Phase 1 of an Environmental Site Assessment and Hazardous Materials Assessment, which supports the conclusion that demolition of the existing building is necessary for any future use of the property to proceed.

The CRHD is in the process of applying to the District of Oak Bay for a permit to demolish the existing building. It is anticipated that this application will be submitted to the District in early 2021, and that upon approval, the remediation and demolition process could begin in early 2021 and would take 8-10 months.

Capital region residents are invited to visit www.crd.bc.ca/oakbaylodge to review the discussion guide, provide input through an online feedback form, and to sign up for the online open houses. Input from the public will be used to support planning efforts with partner agencies at Island Health to develop potential options for a second round of consultation, expected in the spring of 2021.

“Working with the community to reimagine the future use of the property is a high-priority project for the region,” said Denise Blackwell, who chairs the board for the Capital Regional Hospital District, which is overseeing the planning and consultation process.

Blackwell said the property will continue to be used for a health-care facility. “So for example we could have an urgent primary care centre on the main floor like we have out in Langford, or maybe a pharmacy, and then have care beds up above.”

She said it’s important to get feedback from throughout the capital region, not just residents of Oak Bay, where the lodge is located.

It’s anticipated that demolition could begin early this year. The hospital district has started the process of applying for a demolition permit from Oak Bay.

Demolition and remediation is expected to take eight to 10 months.

What's a beautiful park? I live in the City of Victoria, and current policy is to destroy parks. Hopefully Oak Bay has more sense.

Definitely the dumbest thing Oak Bay has ever denied. And I’m not opposed to denying

Big. have sympathy but when you live next-door to a facility like this you should expect change, made more sense than the approved development across the street

The CRHD board moved a motion March 9 to explore funding options with Island Health for the site and arrange plans for general rezoning. Of the board members, Mayor Lisa Helps, Coun. Ben Isitt and Coun. Jeremy Loveday opposed the motion.

“It was clear from the discussion that this property is an important opportunity to see community needs met within Oak Bay and regionally,” read a line from the meeting’s briefing notes.

Colliers Canada has been hired to develop an economic feasibility plan for the former site of Oak Bay Lodge, which has since been demolished.

The goal is to look at how to develop the rocky 1.6-hectare property, which is expected to be used for health purposes by an anchor tenant.

Work includes examining previous studies carried out for the site at 2251 Cadboro Bay Rd.

Colliers began work in the spring and is expected to be finished before year’s end, Island Health said in a statement Tuesday.

Is this standard practice? Did the folks on Catherine street get an economic feasibility study before that grey box got built?
