I see Caledonia by RAP has done away with street parking in favour of bus lanes. Terrible parking in the area in general.

I’m glad Fernwood coffee moved their wholesale operation out to Viewfield.

Bus? No not bus lanes. Bike lanes.

Yeah it's a tough move there...I'd like a bike counter there.  Bike lane goes all the way down to Store St via Chatham.  Quite a bit of lost parking actually.

Does every street really need to be a bike lane????

Every street has sidewalks.  I can see a case for bike lanes.  But there are two problems.  Most streets were designed from the start with sidewalks.  So bike lanes take road space.  And #2 bikes are welcome on the street.

In Japan bikes share the sidewalks with pedestrians so I’ve been told .

Japan has literal freeways running through the most densest neighbourhoods. Canadian urbanists love Japan, but they dare never speak of its roads.

Pretty cool..  Heard it's quite inexpensive to live in most parts of the country.

A report from the Township of Esquimalt shows residents are in favour of bike lanes on Esquimalt Road as the township moves forward with their two-phase plan to build protected bike lanes along the corridor.

The township has been working on the first phase of the project, which includes protected bike lanes on Esquimalt Road between Dominion Road to Joffre Street, along with sewer and drain repairs. The road is considered to be the main passageway through the township.

According to the report by ISL Engineering, which heard from 395 participants, 55 per cent of respondents said they travel by bike or other rolling devices, and 58 per cent said the most important design features in making Esquimalt Road safer would be connectivity to active transportation corridors.

Whatever the selection process was for participants, it obviously heavily favoured cyclists. Because less than 10% of the population cycles. And here we have over 50% of the participants cycling.

I had heard that one of the architects of Victoria’s bike lanes now works for Esquimalt. Is that true?

^So the streets are empty on a Sunday (I assume early in the day as it's still dry in those photos).  Take the same shots on a midweek afternoon and you'll get a rather different result.

It didn’t start raining on Sunday until around 4 o’clock.

I spent much of the day downtown on Sunday. There were times when the photos I took had maybe one, sometimes no people in them, and zero traffic just by fluke.

WFH doesn’t create slow Sundays, on a long weekend. Talking to retailers, the most common response is business is slow, or slower.

2nd Sunday in November is not really a busy day...  I did know someone who went to SS on Sunday though so..  More parking transactions (near 10% more actually) on November 10th than on August 11th (random summer Sunday) if that means anything.

Oh maybe I missed the date, I thought Mike posted photos from this weekend.

Yeah November 10th... So I compared a couple Sundays to that Sunday....
