Would a gondola be a good option to run between downtown and the western communities?

I may be dreaming but I think their were plans for one of these over the inner harbour a while ago.

Seems like an interesting idea.

I would love to see something like this or a quick passenger ferry happen. At shortest point (Fort Rodd to Esquimalt Base) the distance across is only 800 meters.

Using the art of the possible, how could municipal leaders and the province convince DND to allow a run across from one of the DND docks to Esquimalt Road or Maplebank Road? Then it would be a quick bus ride into downtown.

Or, could a Gondola run from the hill above Fort Rodd instead?

Or for local transport in Oak Bay?

It would need to be high enough to allow the navy and cruise ships access to the jetties and the drydock.

I think the point can be made without derogatory language.

I just don't see how this would be any faster than the commute is now.

I mean, I've seen the gondolas in Venice and they move pretty darn slow!

Maybe they could use some leftover haul line to create the long-awaited zipline between Mt. Tolmie and Mt. Doug?

Gondolas are low-capacity vehicles that quickly get cramped if turned into high capacity ones. They don’t work well for multiple stops. As a result, they are a point-to-point transportation method with low capacity. They are also expensive, especially relative to how many people they might serve, making them financially unattractive options for most applications. At their best, gondolas work when traversing difficult terrain with a consistent but low ridership

I wonder if it might work for the situation described for Utah?  Rough terrain, no road to build and maintain, no worries about snow removal.  That might offset the cost if they can make each gondola large enough.

It’s official — UDOT chooses the gondola for Little Cottonwood Canyon (Utah)

UDOT will move forward with ‘phase one’ — and stresses the gondola is still years away

The Americas uses gondolas as commuter transport. It works out alright.

Mostly south/Central America. USA public transport is a joke save for a couple of cities

Ya I think he meant SA. The new one in Paris actually seems to make sense. Many minute savings off bus. Way cheaper than trying to drill out light rail lines underground.

West Shore is way too far unless it were to go down Esquimalt and then across Esquimalt harbour.

These systems are only practical over shorter distances.
