Went for a late afternoon walk and ended up at the Ogden Pt Cafe after 4 pm - when it turns into a bistro. (Yes, I know that this happened a few months ago). It's a nice ambiance. The bar was open, with about 8 single guys already settled in there. Two flat screen TVs showing the 'burning log'. They have a maitre d'. And table service. The menu is similar to the daytime menu - burgers, pizza, salads and lasagna for $8 - $12. A stack of board games makes it feel like a place you could come with friends and spend the evening.

When were things changed at the cafe to this "Bistro" thing?

The Mrs wanted to head here as part of our annual mother's day ritual (which includes a mandatory visit to the petting zoo in the Beacon Hill park and ice cream at Fisherman's Wharf), along with the kidlin, and I must say two thumb's way up to these guys.

First, they allow dogs on their outside deck which is a huge plus especially when you're beast is as big as ours. We hit it right at noon and although the cafe was busy - the breakwater was packed with people doing 'the stroll' - to our surprise we got a nice corner table outside for the 3 of us with "fluffy" flopped out on the ground below.

The truly amazing thing was the food which was delicious (beef nachos for Mom, fish tacos for the daughter and a super tasty butter chicken and basmati rice for me). I don't do dessert but based on the sheer number of other tables with carrot cake muffins slathered with frosting I'd venture they would be a good bet for those with a sweet tooth. If you're down that way on Dallas Rd and feeling a bit peckish don't hesitate to drop in, not only was the food very good it didn't break the bank, about $65 all in.

Great spot lately. Back in the day it was almost all premade stuff and a bank of microwaves. The more recent owners have upgraded that, but I think overall it’s been a great spot with a killer location.

Oh my. If it has transitioned to as you both say, I’m in.

The previous incarnation felt like such a missed opportunity.

Know it all.

It used to be called Ogden Pt Cafe which is essentially what it was - coffee, hot chocolate and a few "sides". Its now a 'bistro' with a covered deck in addition to the inside seats as well as the outside deck where we sat; and now as mentioned offers all day breakfast sandwiches, + full lunch and dinner. Great location and a bit of a captive clientele I would think with all those apartments and condos literally across the street. Not to mention an ice creme shoppe on the lower level with full parking which was also hopping when we were there. Appears to be doing a great business these days.

I was always ok with microwaved shepherds pie, they weren’t trying to fool anyone and it was always decent to good with great desserts, sandwiches and coffee but the newer owners certainly stepped it up into a full service spot.

Looks like it sold in 2012 for $800k.

I think the location is almost next to none. Surely an uptick in the summer, but walk by traffic all winter, and back in the day the dive shop spun off a fair chunk of business as well. That must be where the ice cream place is now.

I think its a terrible website actually. All over the freaking place. The goal of a website for a restaurant shouldn't first and foremost be a piece of art.

All the relevant details and buttons right on the landing page, no annoying music, smooth scrolling, nice photos, what’s not to like.

This the place and menu? https://www.breakwaterbistro.ca/

Yup. The menu business logic is poorly done it jumps all over the place when you attempt to scroll down and actually closes if you click on it. That part is finicky for sure. Bottom line for me though is the food which is very good and the prices which are reasonable. Nice view as well :)

Sometimes it’s important that a business in the service industry pay a pro to handle the job of a smooth working site. There are some very poorly designed templates out there.

I should know.

Shut up, Lanf.

Beat it, Matt.

Bam Bam is cool. He can stay.
