What about the fair?  Is that still going on?

The website still shows all last year's info, and WestCoast amusements (rides, midway) has yet to list their 2015 events schedule online.

CFAX is reporting the Luxton Rodeo has been cancelled this year.

Instead of protesting the calf roping and the pie eating contest, the protester will all be over in Oak Bay protesting the deer cull.

CFAX now reports that the fair and midway will proceed this Victoria Day long weekend.

The Calgary Stampede features chuckwagon races, this article says it's pretty cruel and deadly for horses.

Like yesterday.

An outrider horse was euthanized after it was injured during Sunday's Calgary Stampede chuckwagon races, making it the fourth horse to die during this year's Rangeland Derby.

Two other horses were euthanized following separate chuckwagon racing incidents earlier in the week.

A horse belonging to chuckwagon driver Layne Bremner suffered a broken leg during the sixth heat of the Rangeland Derby on July 4, while a crash last Monday left one of driver B.J. Carey's horses with a serious injury to a joint above its hoof.

Driver error is being blamed for the two deaths.

The chuckwagon races are the deadliest Stampede event for horses, with more than 50 deaths over the last 20 years.

There are very few rodeos that have chuck-wagon races anymore. Businesses used to support it, and few do now.

It is a pity that animals get injured and have to be put down. However, I suspect that vast majority of rodeo animals are treated like royalty, especially when they are at the pinnacle of the rodeo circuit.

Wild horses? Bulls? Calves? I doubt it.

The truth is if there was no rodeo's these animals for the most part would be put down, they cost money to feed and house.

Or they wouldn't have been bred in the first place.

Luxton Fair reports dismal numbers yesterday.  On the bright side, those that went could ride rides all day with no lines.

I guess going up against "free day" around town was tough.  Plus that weather to start.

They need to have some chuck-wagon races and maybe a bull-fighting ring.

Or a live abattoir display.

Or anything lol. I was there for about thirty seconds because it's a ten minute walk from my house. Obviously I'm not the demographic of choice but I'm willing to pay a lot for bad food and still left with nothing.

If that is measuring 80 db that far away its well above safe levels if you are on or operating it

Indeed.  One wonders if perhaps hyperbole was deployed to exaggerate the effect.
