Build an alternate highway into Sooke. There is plenty of land and a couple routes.

I want to think, that bridging the Sooke and Malahat politically was not a mistake. We can expect more focus on roads between Cowichan and Sooke. I mean that’s the low hanging fruit for the MLA of a riding that is not connected by public road, right?BC has no laws in place for busways that cross other streets. A whole new set of laws would be required. It’s not going to happen.

Get the buses off this section of Highway 14 and give them their own lane(s). You don’t even need a two-way lane, just switch up the direction on time of day if you need to, but I don’t think eastbound is an issue that requires a dedicated lane.

This is the only intersection in and out of Sooke. So yeah, chaotic this morning.
Sooke had dealt with its infrastructure investments in about the least practical way imaginable for western standards, it looks like.

Wild.
A crash this morning sent three to hospital with serious injuries. From the RCMP:
On January 15, 2025, at approximately 5:00 a.m., West Shore RCMP responded to a report of a 2-vehicle head on collision near the 4900 block of Sooke Rd. Police along with BC Emergency Health Services and Metchosin Fire and Rescue also attended.
Police learned a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, driven by a 41-year-old woman, was travelling east bound when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Taxi travelling west bound. The taxi was being driven by a 65-year-old male, with a youth passenger. All parties suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital via Ambulance.
Sooke Rd was shut down in both directions for approximately 2 hours while emergency crews attended the scene.
Police are still investigating this collision and charges have been laid at this time.
*note, I think they mean -not- been laid?

People are invited to an information session about plans for safety improvements coming to the intersection of Highway 14 and Idlemore Road.
Project site, no plans yet but earlier they were there: https://www2.gov.bc....way-14-idlemore
Ministry staff will present information and design details for the improved intersection, which will increase safety and ease the flow of traffic for drivers, pedestrians and people cycling or rolling in the area.
The project will also provide better access to Saseenos Elementary school and support economic development opportunities for T’Sou-ke First Nation.
The information session is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, from 4-7 p.m., in the Saseenos Elementary school gymnasium (6066 Sooke Rd., Sooke). Staff will provide a design overview and be available to answer questions about the project.

All that work though, and they don't make it 4 lanes?

I suppose a passing opportunity in front of an elementary school and along a highway school frontage may be tricky.
The better location would be further east where the Esso is.

They already have plans for turn lanes, so why not extend the through-lane all the way? I like the idea. It might even solve the need for a Throup Road bypass, so taxpayers can focus dollars on a Pascoe Road bypass instead.
