It's going to be sweet. The one side is right up against the building anyways the back looks right at the Parkade and the Winside will probably be another solid façade. This gives them three fantastic climbing walls and tons of lights from the front façade! I'm pretty sure they'll be skylights ...

Critics might accuse the developer of putting up walls but the end result looks like it will be pretty good. And since it's not going to be a tall building there's no reason for the naysayers to feel like their backs are against the wall.

More precisely, their fronts will be against the walls - at least while climbing...

Question is, will the walls get tagged over the weekend?

I'll say 50/50 on that. There is a fence to hop but not too difficult.

The west and back wall will be full height for climbing.

Along the east wall will be yoga area at the front, bathrooms, lockers, bike storage, utility rooms, etc for about 1/3 of the width of the building.

On top of that will be a mezzanine level (about 11ft above the main floor) with climbing above on the east wall.

I know it looks like windows on the sides in the rendering but the plans say "precast exposed concrete with reveals".

The plans show 8 skylights but much smaller than you think they could be considering the open space inside.

Plans link, see pg 14 on.

Those angled poles might help the novice climbers scale the walls a bit easier.

It's interesting, you can still see plenty of daylight between the panels.  I wonder if they let them settle a bit, or wait for the roof trusses that might move them a bit.

Has anybody ever thought of turning that stupid sunken plaza into a skateboard park?

Taken from this perspective, something tall would look spectacular in that block. I guess there's not much hope for that now. Oh well, the 13-storey tower the Jawl's are about to build will have to suffice I guess.

What a cool idea aastra.

Here's a pic from today, Thursday July 9.

(Giving Crag X some love  now that 1515 Douglas is getting all the attention.)

Some new pics up on their blog dated July 22. No skylights which seems like a real shame as it's pretty dark in the back. http://www.cragx.ca/climbing-related

Funny, skylights seemed like a given in this space.

That space doesn't look high enough to get the adrenaline flowing, but then again I get mine up standing on a chair.

Do they install the climbing walls proud of those concrete walls?  Those vent shafts seem to be funny.
