Nobody told me the Vic High grounds were open again. The walking track seems decent enough. I would have preferred a proper running track but this one should suffice for casual walkers/joggers, assuming it doesn't become too popular. It's only two lanes wide.

By my unofficial count there are ~140 surface parking spots there now?

I like the way the new housing is really close to the street at the west end of Grant Street. The brick cladding seems decent.

Mike K. should get busy booking the sand volleyball courts for VV's summer tournament.

Yes, kids went back to class there this past week, or at least they were making the switch this week.

The project started in 2020.

Know it all.

Les Leyne: School board digs in with inane stance on police liaison officers

Explaining why the board cancelled the program when most respondents to its own survey supported it, it said most of them identified as “having only white ethno-cultural background”

The board is obviously woke. Here are some examples.

Karin Kwan is thankful to be a third generation visitor on the beautiful and unceded land of the Lekwungen-speaking people. She is honoured to be a part of building better and more enduring relationships with the Four Houses to bring the education of all of our children more in harmony with Indigenous culture and beliefs.

Natalie’s priority is ensuring that our schools are safe and inclusive spaces for all students, with a focus on reconciliation,

Angela Carmichael. She then began researching the history of the school, once its namesake's segregation policies were made known to her. She spearheaded the name change by asking the District to form a committee to consult the community. That committee did find the need to remove the name and move forward in kindness and inclusion....Angela's main goals are equity for all students, support for staff in schools and reconciliation. No child left behind due to circumstances beyond their control.

What a bunch of sniveling, mushy leftist nincom-incompetents; police liaison officers were part of the program back when I was in elementary school in the 1960's and in a word were both beloved and respected (ok two words).

Bill Chisholm of Saanich PD was practically a local cop-rock star in those days and when he and his side kick Cst Dave McGregor showed up at Braefoot Elementary on Monday mornings it was practically the highlight of the week insofar as a bunch of 7 year old's were concerned. Bill later lived just down the road on Darwin Ave from my grandparents and always took the opportunity to drop in and visit with them as he knew my dad very well.

These guys weren't "the enemy" FFS, certainly nothing like what these SB asshats are trying to imply and infer. Local cops are just that; they aren't the Soviet KGB, the Nazi SS or some South American junta-backed death squad for heaven sakes. They're cops who live and work and play in the same neighborhoods we do. They uphold the law and they protect the rest of us from those who don't.

Back in the day we learned very useful everyday lessons naturally including "cross-walk etiquette" and what the various red-amber-green lights meant etc., but much more critically we learned to respect their position but also not to be afraid of the police, that they were there to uphold that law and above all to serve the public and especially to protect the same. And certainly mixed in there somewhere was definitely a sense of awe - after all these guys in uniform could pull your DAD over on a traffic violation....whoa!!

I feel sorry for the kids today being led by these whiny limp-wristed social justice come hell or high water its our way or the highway-types. Too full of themselves and too full of a grossly inflated sense of self importance, unshakeable in the belief that they and only they know better than the rest of us. And - naturally insofar as the police are concerned - its far better to instill attributes like suspicion and fear and hostility into children in 2024....its all part of the social engineering "plan". Isn't that right....comrades?

It’s crap on two fronts. I have a good friend who is FN. My son and his are best friends. He has to make an effort to shield his children from all this victim propaganda that surrounds the government’s version of reconciliation. The irony is it’s the federal government and the monarchy that’s still entangled in it that is responsible. Them dictating this blame shift onto us should be obvious to all. Unfortunately if power is given, many will take it so this is not being rejected wholesale by the FN but I will tell you there is dissent towards it. A true path wouldn’t be blaming us and trying to program that we are awful and don’t belong. That only creates division. It would be recognizing the past in a real way, having the Monarchy and the federal government accept responsibility and then move on.

On the other front, I have a good friend that was a part of that program and he really helped kids. Especially with social media and the internet, it’s a minefield for kids right now. He didn’t police so much as help them. Creating projects and giving the school knowledge of what signs to look for and having the authority to intervene.

I also looked up the school board biographies recently and just about puked. I will certainly be doing research before the next election. I did a bit last time, but clearly not enough. We really need good information on all candidates' backgrounds and beliefs.

Really? I never had PLO's in any school I went to, nor did my kids.

It gets awkward when home schooling the kids, that’s for sure.

Had them at both Braefoot and Campus View; the PLO may have only been a Saanich initiative at that time obviously I can't vouch for what Oak Bay or the CoV, Esquimalt etc were doing. Chisholm was so popular with kids and parents alike he was the de facto public face of the department back in the day. Everyone in the muni at that time knew him or knew of him.

We certainly had them at Torquay in the 80's.  Growing up in Gordon Head in the 80's sure was a magical time.

Well I guess the island being such a hotbed of criminal activity you needed the PLO's.

I asked the SD for the names of every board member and how they voted on the SLO issue.  That was a week ago and no reply or acknowledgement yet.  I wonder why?

I encourage everyone here to ask them the same question.
