A friend who received a prescription for marijuana from his doctor says he receives his pot supply from the federal government for free. He sees no reason to have to go to a pot shop to purchase so-called medical marijuana.

In 1971, Steve Capper, Dave Reddix, Jeffrey Noel, Larry Schwartz, and Mark Gravich, five high school students in San Rafael, California, calling themselves the Waldos because "their chosen hang-out spot was a wall outside the school", used the term in connection with a fall 1971 plan to search for an abandoned cannabis crop that they had learned about, based on a treasure map made by the growerThe Waldos designated the Louis Pasteur statue on the grounds of San Rafael High School as their meeting place, and 4:20 p.m. as their meeting time. The Waldos referred to this plan with the phrase "4:20 Louis". Several failed attempts to find the crop eventually shortened their phrase to simply "4:20", which ultimately evolved into a codeword that the teens used to mean marijuana-smoking in general.

Is it though?  Or just for some people.  Medical professionals will tell you that doctors, lawyers, and teachers use heroin.  Not sure if they say they are all addicted.  There are also medical professionals that will tell you heroin does no long-term damage.

have you tried VV?.. ... ....

In yet another attempt to deflect from a problem that was entirely of this Council's making Her Worsehip now claims the following

Perhaps she might have tried enforcing federal regulations like all the other municipalities in the CRD and saved everyone the "risk"? But what can you expect from someone who ends a sentence in a preposition?  ;)

It's interesting to note that a specific amount of city staff time has been aloted to enforcement (although you'd hardly guess this from the unchecked proliferation of pot shops), but even that has not been sufficient to stay on top of the matter.

So no fines are being collected, licensing & rezoning fees have barely trickled in, and taxpayer funded city resources are having to cover the increasing costs of a regulatory regime that shouldn't need to exist in the first place. Now that's some really progressive government there Ms. Helps.

Just noticed this from VicPD.

VicPD: We know it's illegal, but we have been told by those who set local law enforcement policy to look the other way, to support a particular sociological/political agenda.

One has to wonder how every other law enforcement agency in the CRD managed to find a way to prioritize police action and keep streetfront marijuana shops from opening.

Yeah well that's not true. Salt Spring has at least two or three, Sooke has a couple too I think.

Bit of a battle going on between the owner of Leaf Compassion and his employees, or his former employees. Last week the whole staff at the Chemainus store just closed up and quit. Lots of stories of illegal dismissal, etc.

That has already been established. But considering that every other person on SSI is either stoned 24/7 or growing marijuana it's not exactly the same situation as the active flaunting of the law that has taken place in the City of Victoria.

Why are there no dispensaries in Esquimalt, Oak Bay, Saanich, Central Saanich, North Saanich, Sidney, View Royal, Colwood, Langford, Metchosin & the Highlands? The only urban area (in the CRD) with storefront pot shops is Victoria and this is entirely due to politics and nothing more.

How can one be illegally dismissed from a business that cannot legally exist?

Come for a visit some time. It's 65% at best. The other 35% are more into GHB.

How can they be? This is still the current federal law:

Storefront operations selling cannabis, commonly known as “dispensaries” and “compassion clubs” are not licensed by Health Canada under the current law and are illegal.

How can illegal businesses be "legit"?

Look and see what it says on their business licenses. Maybe not all, but certainly some are run as legitimate business, regular bank accounts, lease agreements, hydro, labour laws, etc.. it's just the product they are selling is illegal.

So they are operating under false pretences?

You think?

The one I know of incorporated as a consultant, and has regular payroll practices and deductions and such, but sells pot. Sounds like the cash deposits are the hardest part!

So they're not being run as legitimate businesses.

A legitimate business provides a product or service that it was authorized to provide and various institutions (i.e. banks, municipalities) were told it providers in order to qualify for their services or support (i.e. when you incorporate a company, apply for a name, register a bank account, apply for a business license, etc., you identify what it is you do).
