A modern take on Big Bad John's, perhaps?

I really like the name. If the Darcy's guys bought it, I can see it being a smart move in many respects. It's big (250-295, I forget), has no noise issues, and it also exists now in the recent vacuum left by Sopranos, which was also a big room (275), and had live acts at least 6 times a month.

Nope can't be. According to their FB profile they are, "The first and only Country Saloon on Vancouver Island located in Victoria, BC."
I am always impressed when my first experience of business is false claims in advertising.

... or it could be just poor grammar.
The first and only country saloon on Vancouver Island (that is) located in Victoria, BC
I don't know, I suppose under some type of narrow definition of a "saloon", they can claim a first. Hopefully it'll have batwing doors. The Ingraham used to have these doors, didn't it, inside the first set of external security doors?

I just spoke to Perry F., ya the Darcy's guys bought it. Perry has always been in the cabaret owners association, so it was likely a very friendly transfer among people that know each other.

You younguns don't remember that location WAS a country bar about 20 years or so ago, give or take a few years....when Victoria even had a country radio station as I recall....

Indeed, the Q's partner radio station was country back around 1996. And now I forget the name of the bar, it was Crossroads or something. IIRC, they made the format country to try to soften the blow, make the zoning change palatable to the current city council. It never did all that well, then reverted to its previous format - it was the Scandals (now Lyle's Place records) that originally moved there.

Just coincidences. It confused me at first too, I thought the Duke was called Drake and that they would both be sharing a name. It'll work itself out in the long run.

^ Maybe if they pull a couple of all nighters they could still make it. Almost every bar and restaurant that I have been involved with construction wise has had to pull a rabbit out of a hat at the last minute.

True but the drywall isn't even up let alone paint finish, trim, etc. Can't see how they pull that off in 3 days and then get an occupancy permit.

The Dukes is a country bar opening after years of success with "Gone Country" at upstairs. New Era Country has become HUGE and i feel like it will do extremely well. They delayed the opening for many reasons. I'm hearing it probably wont even open on the 22nd. Hopefully it does.
