I see the Belmont Building has scaffolding all over the south side and green tarp.
Scaffolding went up week of January 3

To bring this thread back on topic, I'll just say the lawns at the Empress looked greener on this date last year.

^ I wonder if it's because this year there were workers and equipment on the lawns while work is going on. Definitely greener looking last year.

If I had to guess, I'd suggest the lack of verdant quality to the lawns this year is weather-based.

Snow coverage will do that. Flattens the grass. Also, this time last year, the grass was growing. It ain't now.
I mowed my lawn on Feb 28 last year.

Was out for a prowl on my break just now and decided to walk around the harbor and the Empress then back to the office. Interesting note, when you walk around the south side of the Empress, outside what was the Bengal Lounge (I forget what its called now...anyone? Bueller!? Anyone??) I noticed the two prominent outside window awnings on that space still say "Bengal Lounge". Is that deliberate or have they simply not prioritized their removal I wonder.
I would think it a bit confusing for the poor tourist from Omaha or Foam Lake SK seeing that sign, then heading inside expecting a certain imperial-themed 'lounge experience' but in fact these days getting something quite different.....

/\....probably quite true, but still its a bit odd especially since the B-L was officially closed down months ago and its not like the signs on the awnings are hidden away, they are in plain view for anyone approaching and entering the hotel from the south staircase.
Hell offhand I can't even remember without looking it up the name of the new joint that replaced the BL, therefore purely from a marketing standpoint it seems logical and sensible IMO to swap out the old signage with the new to advertise to hotel-goers that there is in fact a new drinking joint on the premises. Ah well what do I care, I haven't worked there in 33 years since my university days, nor for that matter been to the Cornet Room, er the Bengal Lounge, er "whatever-its-called-now" in at least 5 years....
