It might be partly a defensive manoeuvre.

First out the gate rarely takes the prize unless you are so convincing you scare the competition off.

The politician that improves the tsunami warning system has a good chance at the mayors seat.

The tsunami warning this morning was a FAIL...folks could have drowned in their beds.

I doubt that has any impact here at all.

I don't like posting stuff like this so I made it a little harder for you! Team Atwell made it an issue last election cycle.

Atwell made Tsunami warning issues an election issue? I don't remember that at all. Heck, the only issues I DO remember are the EDPA and the Alberg farms issue.

I like Atwell, and think he's done a great job as Mayor of Saanich.

It was a rough start for him, as he had to endure months of bitter council members who didn't like him winning the election over Frank, and did some pretty horrible things to him.

But he hung in there, and rode it out and has done rather well as a Mayor.

A bonus for the upcoming election is also that one of his main supporters was elected as replacement to the fella that passed away. So he isn't alone any more, and she is very strong.

Eight of the last 12 advisory design panel meetings in Saanich have been cancelled. In 2017 there were nine meetings throughout the whole year.

Is that because there's nothing for the panel to review, or is there an issue with securing a quorum?

^I don't know, it could be either. A lack of quorum can occur due to absences or someone having to step out of the room due to conflict of interest.

Yeah. I looked up the last four years and they seem to only have minutes for either eight or nine meetings, so it could be par for the course.

So how many empty seats do we now have? 3 or 4?

How I wish this discussion was about the CoV council.

I am more concerned about who we have to fill them. We are getting what we deserve folks.

How I wish this discussion was about the CoV council.

And after last week it may very well be. For those people who views Helps' move as a political one then one thing she accomplished was making council members look like patsies.

What do we have to replace them with though? The only people running are socialists and poverty industry diehards. That would be an improvement?

Agreed. So far I can see no reason not to spoil my ballot.

I'm just curious since municipal elections tend to give the same results each time and it seems a decent chunk is guaranteed to be new faces at this point.

I think Saanich council is going to be very left leaning after this election. Probably more so than CoV even.
