Word on the street is she was faced with an ultimatum, and resigning was the lesser of two evils.

That would explain her resigning as leader but not as an MLA.

Rumour says at least one Liberal MLA and maybe more were goIng to sit as independents if she stuck around.

As to the above comment, if she stepped down as premier no point sticking around to never be a leader again, she can get a better job than opposition MLA.

Some former leaders may stay on as MLA or MP, but not ones that are required in the house every single day like all these are due to the closeness of the votes.

^ Could be but why give up the $100K+ salary when you are a single mom if you have nothing else lined up?

Also, staying on as MLA at least temporarily would keep that razor thin margin for the NDP going through the fall session.

Who says she has nothing lined up. She gets up to 15 months "transition pay", no? That's available to defeated MLAs as well as those that quit.

That would explain her resigning as leader but not as an MLA.

CTV is now reporting that the BCLibs have confirmed she will step down as MLA, but have not given a timeline. Her tenure as leader ends next Friday.

She has to wait until she is 60 for the pension to start, about $100k fully indexed.

Both Baldrey and Palmer have thrown Ellis Ross' name out there. Another name I've seen out there is James Moore (not a MLA).

That's the one! It was serious talk too, not just a random comment by him. He brought it up, not any reporter.

I wonder how long before you have to remove that branding picture?!

If I was in charge of running a pro sports team that relies on customers from all political persuasions I wouldn't want to be tied to one political party.

Not to mention he's doing a crappy job of leading one small business so don't think he would make a good premier.

The team owner is a Liberal, no secret there.

Postmedia asked the province to explain several other supplier payments, including $3.37 million to the Aquilinis (property developers, farm owners and owners of the Vancouver Canucks) that the Finance Ministry said was for B.C. government crop insurance for farm losses.

A $240,000 payment to energy-giant Encana was for the loan of a senior petroleum engineer to the province’s oil and gas division, and $86,000 was paid to BJW Holdings Ltd. (owned by Bruno Wall, nephew of property developer Peter Wall) for a renewal of a lease on a three-bay ambulance station in Vancouver.

The Aquilinis, Encana and the Walls are top 10 donors to the B.C. Liberals.
