I don’t get it.
Doesn’t the trapped water in plastic bottles eventually return to the soil when the plastic breaks down, circa 450 years ?
On a geologic time scale that’s nothing.

Sure we will all have water return in 450 years.. wonderful..  US is 22 million a year.  Let's say they are the worst and water is being trapped at say 50 million per year world wide, I imagine it's more.  I can see that having an impact.  It's something I've never thought about.

Clearly. How many litres of water does the planet contain? how much of that (as a percent) is locked up in plastic water bottles? Worst case scenario…?

Since we’re talking about the water cycle I think we should include sea water because its evaporation is part of the water cycle.

This is the biggest non issue ever publicized.

I think the amount outside water bottles is at least 100 thousands times the issue.

Maybe it’s saving it for future generations…. There is A LOT of water pollution. Zero effort to address it because the only environmental poison right now is carbon. Even though it’s the building block to life itself….

Yeah that part I don't know.  You can include ocean water all you'd like, I think rain falls on the ocean as well.  I'm not suggesting this is a crisis, but when you think about trapped water being removed from that cycle it is an interesting one I'd say.  Worst case scenario, 100M litres a year for the past 20 and maybe for the next 50 years?  I don't know the numbers of where it gets to be an issue but it's not a great thing.  Easy for us to say having water all the time, but I've heard of communities that do not have much.  Reducing by 5% isn't great for them as populations increase as well.

I would guess melting glaciers and ice caps are adding much more to the global water supply than whatever small amount is is ‘lost’ (temporarily) due to being sealed in plastic.

Total non issue.

I thought the melt and come back annually?  There is no change?

Oh right.. I still recall those pictures of one place at a given time in history and a more recent picture where the water level was the same and the claim was no melt caps lol...

What percentage of change is due to human endeavours vs natural? This is important to know if our politicians are going to control the climate to within 1.5 degrees yes?

It has never been about controlling the climate; it has always been about controlling people - just like any religion.

Controlling people, and looking good in front of them.

Hate to break it to you, but you and Jesus see things the same way on this point (see Matt ch. 23).

Is it?  Or just trying to reduce the temp as best they can...  Let's say it's 30% human.  Now we know, was that important?  Is it less important now to try to reduce the speed of the change?

Jesus wasn't a religion. Those who followed him, created a religion.

They signed a pledge that states 1.5 degrees.....

and since they are being bizarrely specific it matters. Otherwise how do we know how many rainbow sidewalks will do it?

It's ok to set goals...  I think practically it's do the best you can.  You love that pledge though..

For instance if it is 99% natural and 1% human made then the taxes and restrictions on our freedoms are going to increase a lot more to meet the targets.

How many litres of water does the planet contain?

1,240,000,000,000,000,000,000 litres, more or less.

50 million litres isnt even a drop in a bucket.
