We're #1!
Greater Victoria is home to the highest gas prices in the country, according to gas price monitoring site, gasbuddy.com. As of Tuesday morning the average gas price in the Capital Region was 142.7 cents per litre, compared to 139.5 in the Nanaimo region and 136.8 in Greater Vancouver. Northern Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and northern B.C. all hold high national averages of 132...

I other words, Edmontonians pay $62.32 to fill up an 80 litre tank. Victorians pay $109.52 if filling up at our Costco priced at $136.9, or $114.32 anywhere else.

Expect gas to hit close to $1.50 this week.
Interestingly, it's being reported in Vancouver that the price hike is due to supply issues in Washington, so less of their fuel is being exported to BC.

How do you know this will happen this week?

You look at the rack prices. Usually what happens there translates to price changes several days later at the pump. Rack went up 4 cents overnight so my guess is a 5 or 6 cent increase to consumers.

Also there's that yearly pattern of prices rising as the year gets closer to the summer months, then dropping not as much during the approach to the winter months. So guessing the price of gas is going to jump is a fairly safe bet no matter what's going on.

Yet again we're hostage to what happens in another country, with what was originally our oil. Madness.

It's hard not to think something was a little off when the rack was in the mid-80s and the price was 1.429. The rack rose, and the gas price fell. This coincided with a lot of media coverage bringing attention to Victoria being the most expensive gas market in the country. Coincidence?

So would you look at that. We were paying 1.429, now we're paying 1.359 while the rack remains at 90.30 cents.

Welcome to the wacky world of gas prices on the mainland! Our fluctuation over the last 24 hours was 141.9 yesterday on my commute to work, 135.9 on my commute home, 133.8 when I was out in the evening, and 142.9 on my commute this morning. Gas Buddy says that same station was reported at 131.9 five minutes ago...

Yes, it could have magically gone back up again at many stations. Yesterday I saw it was 1.329 at Costco, and it remains there, it looks like.
