That’s pure fantasy what Waymo is reporting.

The only metric that matters is proving the computer would have calculated a different response to a scenario where an accident happened at the hands of a human driver, then presenting that information as evidence of a computer doing better.

That is what Tesla said it was collecting to prove how much safer FSD would be. Nearly a decade ago the data collection started. So where is that data? Waymo can use statistics to create whatever story it wants. But where is the data proving their technology would have taken different manoeuvres to avoid collisions?

I think your reasoning is way off.

They have millions of miles of data. So does Tesla.

What matters is data showing how a computer avoided an accident a human would not have. Tesla has never released that data, which it said it was collecting and would use to show how much safer FSD was.

If Waymo were sincere in the data it was releasing, it wouldn’t compare itself to the general population, but to taxis or Uber -only.-

The best data will ultimately be the actual accident records of computer controlled cars vs human controlled cars under similar circumstances and conditions.

Correct.

And so far, none of the manufacturers are willing to release data on how their computers would have prevented accidents humans were involved in.

That’s the only data that matters and it has never been released.

New electric vehicle registrations surged 18 percent in July compared with the same month last year on the strength of newer models such as the Tesla Cybertruck and Honda Prologue, according to the most recent U.S. data from S&P Global Mobility. EV leader Tesla broke a five-month losing streak in July, with its registrations rising 1.2 percent compared with a year earlier on robust Cybertruck deliveries of 5,175 vehicles, the data showed. All other EV pickups combined sold 5,546. The Cybertruck launched in November.

September is expected to mark a significant milestone in Norway, with the number of electric vehicles (EVs) on the roads set to exceed that of petrol vehicles.

As predicted earlier this year by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, new figures from Norway’s Road Traffic Information Council, the Opplysningsrådet for Veitrafikken (OFV), expect EVs to overtake petrol cars this month with EVs running at more than 90 per cent of new car sales.

An analysis of OFV figures published last week by Bilbransje24, a Norwegian auto industry publication, revealed that at the end of August, there were 751,450 electrified cars in service on Norway’s roads and 755,244 petrol-only cars, each accounting for around 26 per cent of the total number of cars on the roads.

...Norway exported $58.9 billion worth of oil in 2021, accounting for 4.06% of the global oil trade. This makes it the eighth-largest oil exporter in the world. Norway has the largest oil reserves in Western Europe and sends the vast majority of its oil to its European neighbors. The oil industry accounts for 50% of Norwegian exports and over 20% of GDP...

Quite the flex with their electric cars, as they flood Europe with oil.

You gotta love hypocrisy.

Get ready, Austin and Atlanta!

Today, Waymo and Uber are announcing an expanded partnership to bring the Waymo One experience to Austin and Atlanta, only on the Uber app, beginning in early 2025. In these cities, Uber will manage and dispatch a fleet of Waymo’s fully autonomous, all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles, which will grow to hundreds of vehicles over time.

“Waymo’s mission is to be the world’s most trusted driver, and we’re excited to launch this expanded network and operations partnership with Uber in Austin and Atlanta to bring the benefits of fully autonomous driving to more riders,” said Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO, Waymo. “We’ve been delighted at the positive feedback from our Waymo One riders to date, and we can’t wait to bring the comfort, convenience, and safety of the Waymo Driver to these cities in partnership with Uber.”

“We’re thrilled to build on our successful partnership with Waymo, which has already powered fully autonomous trips for tens of thousands of riders in Phoenix,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber. “Soon, riders in Austin and Atlanta will be able to experience that same mobility magic, through a new fleet of dedicated autonomous Waymo vehicles, available only on Uber.”

Through this expanded partnership, Uber will provide fleet management services including vehicle cleaning, repair, and other general depot operations. Waymo will continue to be responsible for the testing and operation of the Waymo Driver, including roadside assistance and certain rider support functions.

Austin and Atlanta: driven by Waymo, available only on Uber

Today, Waymo One provides more than 100,000 trips each week across San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. Soon, Uber users in Austin and Atlanta will have the opportunity to enjoy the game-changing experience Waymo One riders have come to trust.

Waymo has already begun serving fully autonomous rides to employees in Austin. In the weeks to come, Waymo will welcome a limited number of early riders into the Waymo One app before fully transitioning to the Uber app next year.

In Atlanta, Waymo and Uber will begin welcoming public riders in early 2025 via the Uber app, and gradually expand throughout the year.

It's funny to read articles from earlier in the year, claiming EV sales were surging in Europe.
