We’re still in early days when the majority of people don’t have EVs. If the inflection point ever happens, it will be calamitous.

No, it won't.  Like horses > cars was no big deal.

If the mandates cause significant pain, the government will back off.

The government doesn’t care, I’m afraid.

They are building homes now where one or two will have parking let alone charging. So now by 2035 the car costs $150k and you need a $3,000k home to run it.

Mike: What a joke.

I’m sorry, but that is just nuts, to require that sort of thing.

..............................................................................................................

As pointed out by others many people can charge at home so charging at a park and ride location is not a required thing if you own an EV..  A Level 1 rate regular plug would meet most of my regular needs. Newer models can now charge much faster. A 2024 Kia EV6 can charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes at the maximum charging speed..

Allowing time  once or twice a week on your way to work or when returning home to fill your car with gas is not a joke.

Many people have been doing it for ages. They just do not think about it. Just like the the time they spend to get their oil changed. It is just the usual thing to do.

Meanwhile....

Parking minimums could be axed after Victoria council votes to study ways to add housing fast.

Good luck finding a charger that will charge at this maximum speed. Public chargers are notorious for under-performance.

What's a full charge require, under this maximum charge speed? 80% is still 25% shy of a full charge. This 10-to-80% figure is a marketing gimmick.

What a racket you guys are selling. Hand over first scam. I'm disappointed in you all.

The racket is your absolute refusal to actually look at and understand this tech. Case in point: the 10 to 80% thing is NOT a marketing gimmick, it's physics.

Most EV owners charge at home where time to full is not an issue.  Most EVs slow down their charging rate around 80% full. No need to charge to 100%.  If time is an issue then only charge to 80 %  or what you need.  Like not filling the tank full can increase your mpg/mpl if that is important to you.

Cost of energy for per km for me recently has been 5 cents.

Thank you also to all the locations that still provide me with free energy.

It's 80%.

I'm not sophisticated enough to know 80% is better than 100%?

Just like an ICE gas tank. 80 % full on an EV is 80% of total battery capacity.

ICE vehicles have different sized gas tanks.  EVs have both different sized energy holding capacities they also have varying filling rates. When you charge to 80% it has got 80% of its total energy holding  capacity.

When filling an ICE vehicle tank you slow down the fill rate  or stop it automatically as it gets closer to full. On an EV the fill rate for EVs  is variable and is controlled by the program in the car based on known battery variables and physics based principles.

For EVs the rate of energy flow into the battery is slowed at 80% for reasons of physics.  If you do not need a full battery then filling to 80% is faster and cheaper if you are being charged for energy at a commercial location by the minute rather than kwh. If you charge at home this is not an issue since you only pay for the electric energy put into the battery.

Oh. My. God.

I’m glad you guys are the marketing arm for EVs.

It’s like what you really want to say is, “you idiot, it’s 80% because it’s stupidly long to charge to 100%, dummy! Who needs 100%, anyway. Only stupid ICE drivers fill their tanks to full, like Neanderthals.”

I thought that you asked for information? My information  was given with good intentions.

I  have been driving an EV for 5 years. For me it has been a very positive experience.

There is a learning curve involved in understanding and learning about EVs like in all new technologies

I have shared my experiences here and I share the information that I have learned that might be informative for others.

Nope. I did not ask for the information you provided. But I did ask how long it takes to charge the EV you referenced to 100%, not 80%. You’ve skipped that part, but told us drivers fill their ICE slower as it fills up to 100%. But it automatically shuts off at 100%, there’s no slowdown at any pump I’ve visited from 0-100% :)

Common sense says 100% full in 3 minutes is better than 80% full in at least 18 minutes.

Some times filling an EV to 80% can be better than filling to 100% for the reasons mentioned above.
