So great. Victoria is awesome. Can't wait to see the heritage plaque or whatever.

Council has decided to ban heritage plaques because like plastic bags they only get used once and are not recycled on multiple buildings

They also become troublesome in the future when it comes time to re-write or erase history to suit the narrative of the time.

That's true. Heritage buildings are a small matter to wipe out, but people would flip if you tried to alter a heritage plaque.

As this 1940s aerial pic of the Fairfield/Moss St. neighbourhood illustrates, Victorians are obsessed with keeping their city frozen in time, never changing, staunchly preserving its old buildings and its historic built form, etc.
(Seriously, if this is what hardcore resistance to change gets you then I don't want to know what the neighbourhood would look like if Victorians were really eager to wipe stuff out.)

After 7 months since the last photo, this needed some love. Not much going on. Looks like a fuel tank was dug up. Anyone know what the holdup might be?
Dunno who's end it's causing the delay, but the Building Permits are listed as "On Hold" on VicMap

Strange that the BP is on hold but the electrical permit is still active? Makes me think they have changed something in the design that requires a BP alteration. Cant be major as the rezoning & DP are still listed as complete with no new applications.

The building permit here remains on hold.
Does anyone have insight into what is going on? It's been a year since demolition now...

I'm just glad they didn't waste any time knocking the old building down. Stalling new developments is fine, but stalling demolitions of old buildings sure wouldn't make for a very livable community.

Hate to say this but I have been hearing through some back channels that this may not be the only building that is stalled.

That's some sweet open space where that ~100-year-old church used to be. Enjoy it while you can.

The excavation permit here remains on hold. I wonder if the development will be cancelled due to rising construction costs etc ...?
