VicMap is showing a demolition permit was issued last Aug. But the actually building permit is on hold so actual construction may take longer.

Walked by this site earlier this week and you could smell the fuel coming off some of the freshly excavated soil. Depending on the extent of the contamination they may have a bit of remediation work to complete before construction gets fully underway.

Are they only just now discovering potential site contamination? This project has already been 7 years in the planning with nothing to show for it.

There was a consultant on site grabbing samples so assume they knew about it. But it will still slow excavation as they will have to confirm they have removed all the contaminated material before bulk excavation starts to avoid spending more than necessary on disposal.
