They are going to run into the same problem Seattle did. People are going to cut back on their hours of work so that they can continue to get subsidized housing.

What’s interesting, is the last Pacifica building, built on Tyee (I think that’s the last one) didn’t have market units, but something they called “near market.” Now Pacifica is taking applications for market housing.

Maybe the homes are still priced below the actual market rate in a private building, because the terms are less costlier for that unit, but are still market under the operating cost scenario for this building?

Let me guess, it’s not in an open and transparent way?

It is run by Pacifica. You need to be on their list.

By my count this will be the one-millionth time that I've made this point about building massing: wide buildings have much more impact on views than taller/narrower buildings. Where once you could see many things, you can now see one thing. And in this case it's quite a repetitively plain thing, too.

Do y'all remember when "they're stealing our sky" was a complaint against new development? We heard it a lot for a while there, although it seems to have gone out of fashion again. Anyway, how come nobody ever complained "they're stealing our depth of field"? Widescrapers are depth-of-field stealers.

I was thinking the ground level might look great when the vehicles etc. are in there. So I'm wondering, why do I think it will look so great? And then I realize it's because none of the ground level glass is opaque or otherwise covered over. I'm pretty sure this indicates some sort of capsizing of our reality: it's now standard for ground-level stores and businesses to have opaque windows, and it's now standard for vehicle entrance doors to have large panes of clear glass. Back in the day it was the exact opposite.

Do we have a thread for the narrow building across the street between Mondrian and Sutton Place? (the mods on this board have given me grief a thousand times for my clever and hilarious plays on words, so maybe this one time they could switch gears and help a guy out)

The firehall's ground level looks great because -- unlike just about every other ground floor in downtown Victoria now -- it has windows that you can actually see through. Any wagers as to whether it will remain like that or if it will also get covered over eventually?

The building looks absolutely massive, until you realize the true scale, thanks to the fire trucks, and then it's not so radical.

It's just a building, slightly wider than normal Victoria-sized buildings, but also thinner than we often see. I don't see the catastrophe you guys do.
