Just heard that this may not have been a shooting...  Edged weapon was used...??  Police Chief initially said shooting...  Little mix up.

Police have identified five of the victims as a family of newcomers to Canada from Sri Lanka.

They are:

35-year-old Darshani Banbaranayake Gama Walwwe Darshani Dilanthika Ekanyake.
Seven-year-old Inuka Wickramasinghe.
Four-year-old daughter Ashwini Wickramasinghe.
Two-year-old daughter Rinyana Wickramasinghe.
Two-month-old daughter Kelly Wickramasinghe.

Police said Ekanyake's husband was injured and is currently in hospital in stable condition. He's since been identified as Dhanushka Wickramasinghe.

Another man, 40-year-old Amarakoonmubiayansela Ge Gamini Amarakoon, was also killed.

Febrio De-Zoysa, 19, is charged with six counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Police said he is a Sri Lankan national who is believed to be in Canada as a student.

He made his first court appearance late Thursday afternoon. Wearing a black tracksuit jacket, De-Zoysa spoke little, stating his name and birthdate before sitting down.

Police said De-Zoysa is also an acquaintance of the family and was living in the home at the time of the killings. He was arrested at the scene about 15 kilometres south of Ottawa's downtown core.

Stubbs said the family's youngest daughter was born in Canada, and suggested the family members had arrived at different times.

Should there a mass killing discussion where we can ban guns and edged weapons?

He visited the father, Dhanushka, at the hospital on Thursday morning. Part of one of Dhanushka's fingers was cut off and another finger was repaired with surgery, Suneetha said. He also has cuts on his face, chest and back.

"I cannot say he's doing well, but he's a little bit stronger than we thought," Suneetha said.

"Mentally, he's in great shock."

Jeez when was that?  Why no info? And do you have a point?

23 mass shootings in the US since the KC shooting...

Oh and...

I-Team: Hundreds of guns used in crimes in Canada smuggled from Texas - CBS Texas (cbsnews.com)

According to Criminal Intelligence Service Canada, of guns traced last year that were involved in crimes in Ontario, Canada's most populated province, 73% originated from the United States, with no state having more hits than Texas. Last year, more than 300 guns used in crimes in Ontario were traced back to Texas - nearly ten times as many as five years ago.

What’s so crazy about those stats is the Liberal government is going after law abiding citizens, despite 73% of guns originating from the US, illegally trafficked. What other parts of the world is the remaining 27% originating from?

Crime finds a way, Ismo. If it’s not American guns, they’ll be Italian guns, or Chinese guns, or German guns. Crime always finds a way. That’s why we need severe repercussions, not eroding rights for statistically the least criminally-involved segment of Canadians.

I’ll repeat this again; a firearms license in Canada proves you are a citizen in good standing. There is nothing anyone else can show, any time, any where, that proves what a Canada PAL signifies. And yet, Canada treats people with a PAL like as though they’re a problem in our society.

No matter how much you want it to not be true, the fact remains: restrict guns, limit the gun crimes.
As much as I don’t like regulations on people, when it comes to weapons, I’ve changed my mind that it’s necessary for Joe Schmoe to have a gun except for very specific cases like hunting, military and security.

We’ve never had tighter restrictions, but higher gun crimes than ever.

That’s odd….I don’t feel like a problem. I’m going to head up to the garage and oil up the old Smith and Wesson and go and throw some lead out at the range.
