Quite the mixed response. I like it, only wish it was 10+ stories taller (how I feel about every downtown project)

I imagine the height is a direct correlation with the parking requirements. They're already requesting a parking variance, since they aren't excavating below the chapel. Doesn't leave a lot of room for a parkade.

New plans were submitted end of January, they're on the Dev Tracker: https://tender.victo...Number=REZ00666

Changes seem minimal. The big addition is that the neighbouring Townline development has been added to the drawings for context.

Better than just another rectangular shoe box stuck on it's end.

Looks nice. Nothing spectacular, but a little different in a good way.

Goofy = good in my books.

I think it looks different and good. Love the roofline and the building slant.

Finally, a building where you don't need to worry about leaning over your patio and having someone spit on you from above.

Unless the wind is blowing from the east.

Unless the wind is blowing from the east.

Ah yes, the ol' boomerang spit. The silent killer.

Moving off-topic, the discussion of spit always requires this clip:

The only thing goofy about it is keeping the funeral home

Only part of it is being retained. The biggest part of keeping it will be removing the increasing amount of graffiti that now covers most of the Vancouver Street side.

Perhaps I don't see the architectural beauty in the funeral home, or most mid-century architecture for that matter. It just seems to constrain the design, kill the Vancouver St. side, and clutter up the whole Jetsons-style ground floor. The tower itself is pretty good.

The beauty is mostly on the interior as di Castri created light access along the sides of the chapel.

Slow down there, Speedy Gonzales. Do you think you're smarter than the average VV forumer? Maybe Mr. Magoo needs to get his eyes checked? As daffy as it might seem, this project would be Mickey Mouse if not for the preservation aspect.*

*ham-fisted cartoon references

Seriously though, methinks this design implies more glass coverage than it would actually have. To its detriment, I mean. It should be glassier overall. And I just don't dig that spandrel striping effect. I could have sworn there was a controversy on the interwebs somewhere about excessive amounts of seafoam spandrel on new buildings?

It's only ghastly when combined with red brick.

Behold, Tempo by Amacon! The seafoam spandrel, yellow concrete, and dark red brick monstrosity in Richmond...

Why is the funeral home being kept? Kills the design imo.
