That view doesn't seem so unreasonable when you consider World War I was a essentially a family dispute among Queen Victoria's useless grandsons and cousins.

Good day to choose to be glib.  Golf clap.

I find this sentiment distasteful.  Turning what is an act of remembrance and an acknowledgment of sacrifice into an opportunity to promote a political agenda shows a disconnection with what I believe to be core Canadian values.  Bow your head, say thank you and recognize that in some part your very ability to say the things you want to say exist due to the sacrifice of so many.  Save the politics for tomorrow.

Wow, you really missed the whole point. This sort of thing is why the "white poppy" nutjobs have gained traction. One of them approached me at the Legislature and said, "Would you like a poppy for peace?" and I replied, "That's what the red poppy means." Because I was with my kids I didn't add what I was thinking which was, "... you ignorant ****."

The whole point of Remembrance day, as created by those veterans who came home is: Never Again. We are asked to never forget what happened so it doesn't happen again. The whole thing is political. The whole point is to stop war. Standing at a cenotaph on November 11 is a political act in support of peace.

I'm not sure what it is we're disagreeing about, as your point makes no sense with respect to my position on the subject. And frankly I'm not that interested.  Apologies for thread hijack.

It’s the “fair distribution of resources” that resonates with me.

Again my definition of a socialist is someone who’s got nothing and wants to share it with everyone.

And keep what others have for themselves.

As Uncle Winston put it....

“Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy.” —Perth, Scotland, 28 May 1948, in Churchill, Europe Unite: Speeches 1947 & 1948 (London: Cassell, 1950), 347.

AND

“The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent virtue of Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.” —House of Commons, 22 October 1945.

Lisa Helps spent a massive $110K on the fall election. https://contribution...d/100134905.pdf  The $110K was nearly double the election spending limit although the filings claim that about half of the spend was prior to the campaign start.

Stephen Hammond spent just over $4K. MG spent just over $31K and received what appear to be several donations over the contribution limit. https://contributions.electionsbc.gov.bc.ca/pcs/lepublished/100136043.pdf

In Saanich Haynes outspent Atwell $70K to $40K.

I don't see how Helps can claim signage was an expense incurred prior to the campaign period when the signs can only be displayed during that period. She also shows expenditures of about $20K more than she raised.

^Yeah, but you want to get your signs designed, printed and delivered before the deadline to put them up.

And yes, it's a handy way to get one of your big expenses out of the way before the campaign rules kick in.

Just noticed that signs actually get reported in both periods even if there is only one expense.

This is from Geoghegan's form. I completely understand redacting addresses and phone numbers but this I don't understand. There may be a legitimate reason for blacking out an entire line but even the date is a secret the public shouldn't know? Unless it's just a correction (donor listed in the wrong column).

Only contributors of $100 or more are to be disclosed. My guess is he reported a contribution of less than that amount. If it was just a correction, it would have just been crossed out rather than fully redacted.

Interesting looking at the list of donors for Helps, lots of developers and a couple of investment folks. Kind of surprising or maybe not

So she is essentially the big-money candidate, paid to ensure the development and poverty industries continue to thrive?
