I mean the term is soooo overused these days, but if this thing turns out to be true, the only adjective to describe this situation is "Trumpian."

The last time I heard an investigator say, "I've identified your problem, it's that I should be hired" was when the City hired Huggett to fix the bridge.

So help get this out of the way: is anything that's happening here partisan, in any way?

Mike Farnworth now confirms Mary Polak's affidavit, saying that Plecas did suggest Mullen fill in as Sgt-at-Arms.

As Keith Baldry so eloquently put it..."Has the Speaker gone rogue?". Plecas has a press conference now on the books for 2:00 pm.

Horgan was just live on Global talking about this issue. Nothing new.

The ever elusive "Some People" are saying the Libs have had it out for Plecas ever since he became speaker, giving power to the NDP/Greens and that they may take this opportunity to topple the government and retake power.

I feel safe in saying this is the craziest thing to ever hit the Leg, bigger than Zalm/Leung, bigger than Clark's patio, bigger than BC Rail/Basi raid.

It is quite the interesting controversy and in the era of social media, is much more fast and furious, but Glen Clark's "Casinogate" or "Patiogate"...whatever you want to call it...that toppled his term as Premier. Ended a Premier. That's pretty significant and hard to top, no?

Plus we got all those great paparazzi-style shots of Clark fretting about in the kitchen!

Where’s that statement from Plecas? It’s been more than 90 minutes.

Lets face it, Plecas is viewed as a slimy operator by most laypeople. He jumped shipped in order to get himself elected as Speaker.

My default position is not to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Apparently Plecas bailed on the presser. Some statement maybe coming via Mullen though?

Some sense of normalcy with this announcement just now:

Now we just await the statement from Plecas/Mullen.

With Krog out and a by-election slated for the New Year, the NDP is down to 40 seats plus the Green’s 3.

The Liberals won 43 seats but Plecas becoming speaker dropped that down to 42. Is that right? Are we currently looking at 42 vs 43?

^correct. There is also talk of a recall initiative towards Plecas in Abbotsford South, though those are just minor rumblings at this point. How the next couple days play out could change that.

Wally Oppal has joined Mullen as a Special Advisor to Plecas.

Major slap on the wrist to Plecas for this to have happened.

And if the Liberals win the Nanaimo seat we have Plecas as "Premier".

Wowzers.

Is it too early to speculate on the likelihood that the next speaker will come from either the NDP or the Greens?

Great tweet from Richard Zussman..."Wally Oppal is coming in as a second special adviser to the speaker. We don’t even understand why there is a first special adviser."

Plecas said that we would understand when Mullen made the statement why he can't speak to the media. Well, Mullen made the statement and we are all now even more confused than ever.

This is a textbook example of how not to communicate to the public. Every minute that goes by, the public loses more confidence in Plecas. Says he'll talk to the media, then bails. Says Mullen will be clear in his statement, that's BS too.

The good news? Wally Oppal is solid. Clearly the Libs got their way in getting him involved. And also, the man can scarf down an epic amount of food at Floyd's. That alone should tell you how tough of a stomach he has.
