No requirement to take it down in an "environmentally friendly" manner?

1025 Kings this afternoon. Looks like they're putting up a crane soon.

Sorry about the fence in the picture :(

Good work!

Looks like they’ll be able to avoid blasting. That’s going to be a huge cost savings.

Isn't this project precisely what Eby's $500 million fund is trying to prevent?

Yes - this is exactly it. These sort of older rental buildings provide naturally affordable rental housing without the significant expense of building new designated affordable buildings. It's way more effective to protect these from redevelopment as well as build those new buildings.

But won't there be more housing in the new building?

I think the bigger thing here, is this isn’t a giant REIT replacing this building for luxury condos, but a local developer just trying to build housing that will last for another 50 years.

They’re turning 15 aged units into 60-units. Your provincial government wants to stop this from happening.

That was the point I was trying to make. Eby's fund will prevent new rental housing from being built, which hurts everyone in the long run.

A mobile crane is on site that wasn't there this morning (photo is from about 1:25pm). Safe bet that the site crane will be going up soon.

Sure enough, the crane went up today. Photo is from Wark St Park at 2:40 PM.

Looks like the same one used at the adjacent Ross Terrace project.
