Sure the pagers themselves were specific. But the location of the pagers at the time of detonation was indiscriminate. There was really no way to ensure that civilians weren’t put at risk of harm. That’s why children died.

You have no problem with children dying when Israel was attacked.

What changed?

Know it all.

I have significant problems with children and civilians dying on either side. I’ve never said otherwise.

Israel is a highly developed nation with immense military and technical capabilities. They don’t have to violate international law unless they want to.

Isreal cannot conduct the war with Hezbollah any more precisely than this.  If they dropped snipers into Lebanon there would be more civilian deaths than the percentage killed here.  There is no "front" in this war away from civilians.

Should they bomb Lebanon then?

Show me a war where civilians, including children, did not die. Hezbollah and Iran need to leave Israel alone.

That is all that is required to end the wars.

We don’t know that. There’s thousands of people injured. How many of them are hezbollah?

All of the people cheering on wars in the Middle East and Ukraine and thinking that we should kick China and Russia's butt in the process should remember that Victoria is within the blast radius of a nuke dropped on the US Navy Air Bar and shipyards in Washington State.

Not cheering on war but Isreal has to defend itself.  100,000 people there have had to move away from Hezbollah rocket fire.

Yes, but when thousands of pagers are detonated at once. you can’t control the location of those explosions. Crowded city street? On a bus?

As of yesterday, there were 12 confirmed killed. Of those, 4 were healthcare workers and 2 were children. So at least 50% were not hezbollah. These numbers will change everyday, but what’s an acceptable percentage to you?

It's a war, you must kill people to win a war.  Or you will lose the war.

What better way do you propose to kill people?

I propose that they resolve their issues diplomatically and if that cannot happen then each side conduct their war operations within the confines of international law, without committing war crimes, and without undue risk to civilians.

All Hezbollah has to do is stop sending rockets to Israel.  Counter-action will then end.

Their "issues" are that Hezbollah does not want Israel to exist.  That's not going to be resolved diplomatically at least in this generation.

But Nasrallah has also repeatedly vowed to destroy Israel. “It is an aggressive, illegal and illegitimate entity, which has no future in our land,” he said in 2005. “It’s destination is manifested in our motto, ‘Death to Israel’.” Hezbollah has also and angrily threatened to destroy U.S. “hegemony” in the Middle East.

Why is everyone so hard on Israel? If a terror organization fired rockets continually from Vancouver onto Seattle, Western Canada would be occupied and under US administration within a few days.

The largest nuclear explosion in history, Tsar Bomba, had a blast radius of around 150 miles. The Bangor Submarine Base is around 40 miles from Victoria.

It goes without saying that either China/Russia will drop the largest weapon they possess on Bangor, so Victoria and half of Southern Vancouver Island will be glass if that happens.

Add into the mix Esquimalt Navy Base, Ault Field, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Bremerton Naval Shipyards, as well as lesser known places that are near, or at the top of the "hit list" - like the Jim Creek Naval Radio Station just east of Arlington WA (rumoured to be at the top of Russias targets in a nuclear exchange, and 60 miles or so from Victoria), and there's no doubt we'll all simply "be gone" should a nuclear exchange occur.

If anybody is going to cheer on anything at all, cheer on a peaceful resolve.

I think if a nuclear war starts, most of the planet will soon be dead. The Seattle blast radius isn’t too relevant.

The luckiest people in a nuclear war are the ones vaporized in the initial blast.

Wrong.

Max would like this.....

But in the midst of the devastation, near the hypocenter of the attack, eight Jesuit missionaries who were in their rectory survived. Four of the priests whose lives were spared are known by name: Father Hugo Lassalle, Father Wilhelm Kleinsorge, Father Hubert Schiffer and Father Hubert Cieslik sustained only minor injuries from shattered windows. None suffered hearing loss from the explosion. Their church, Our Lady of the Assumption, suffered the destruction of its stained glass windows but did not fall; it was one of only a few buildings left standing in the midst of widespread destruction.

Not only were the clerics kept safe from the initial blast — they suffered no ill effects from the harmful radiation. Doctors who cared for them after the blast warned that radiation poisoning to which they had been exposed would cause serious lesions, illness and even death. But 200 medical exams in the ensuing years showed no ill effects, confounding the doctors who had predicted dire consequences.

Not sure I should count on a miracle to save me in the event of a full scale 21st century nuclear exchange.
