It might be simpler to setup computers at the passport office. I don’t think doctors offices should be handling federal travel documents.

it’s not radically processing your passport. just adding a permanent mark. your doctor can also be your passport guarantor.

In my case I have no doctor. What happens if you rely on walk-in clinics?

In my case I have no doctor. What happens if you rely on walk-in clinics?

you get it from anyone deemed official or professional enough to A. have access to the central vaccination registry (the one they will rely in when you lose your documentation about your dose history) and B. understand the grave responsibility of having and using this stamp.

your clinic might have it. maybe the passport office also has it. only a small portion of the popularion will need the stamp. most 1st world countries seem to be getting to the same point simultaneously. soon the most vaccinated countries will neither be a threat to other countries nor see other countries arrivals to them as a threat.

this whole thing is over in just a few months. chill.

also use YouTube as your doctor. it’s more accurate. plus it doesn’t get indignant if you get a second opinion.

It insists on a second opinion, then third, then fourth, then sells you a cure or teaches you how to weld it together. And some Tucker thrown in now and then.

Know it all.

Entire island in B.C. gets vaccinated for COVID-19

Most Canadians can only dream of a day when they will feel confident that most of the people they encounter are vaccinated for COVID-19.

But whether it's a neighbour over the fence or a stranger in the local general store, people on Denman Island, B.C., will know what that's like as soon as their doses kick in.

The island, which has a population of 1,200, is one of 28 communities on or near Vancouver Island where all adults have been offered a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

The campaign's goal was to vaccinate every adult they can in the community over three days and create herd immunity for the island. This first dose won't guarantee immunity, but it is a step in that direction.

Denman Island's vaccination blitz started early last week with a handoff in a parking lot at the Buckley Bay Ferry Terminal south of Courtenay, B.C.

On Saturday, the Indian Ministry of Health said the country had registered 401,993 new COVID-19 cases within the past 24 hours, marking the largest daily increase since the start of the outbreak.

Top Indian virologist Shahid Jameel has warned of minor mutations in some variants of COVID-19 samples that he said should be studied more closely.

Jameel, who is also the chair of the scientific advisory group Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genetics (INSACOG), told Reuters on Sunday that "we [INSACOG scientists] are seeing some mutations coming up in some samples that could possibly evade immune responses".

The virologist declined to elaborate on whether the mutations were detected in the Indian variant or any other strain of the coronavirus.

THIS TOOL is very good at showing us compared to US states.  on the current 7-day average for daily new cases Alberta is #2 (Michigan is #1).

BC is around #46 I think.

It is also useful to see where we all had waves.

California is at #51 now which is quite remarkable.

I got the text saying I can book an appointment but when I tried it says "Sorry no facilities are available for the city or town selected." I can select Duncan but not Victoria. I don't know what that's about.

I started over. It shows three regional locations Victoria, Langford and UVic, and there's a fourth listed that just says plain "Victoria" which didn't appear the fist time but is the one you have to select. I don't know why.

Demonstrators, many maskless, march in Montreal against public health restrictions

https://www.cbc.ca/n...tions-1.6010632

Halfway through, the parade was estimated to have spanned nearly two kilometres.

"We can no longer take freedom for granted in this country," said Maxime Bernier, leader of the federal People's Party of Canada who joined in the protest. He is calling for an end to the curfew and lockdown measures.

The EU Commission has recommended easing restrictions on non-essential travel from overseas.

Under the plans, anyone who has received the last dose of an EU-approved vaccine at least two weeks beforehand will be permitted to travel.

"Time to revive EU tourism industry and for cross-border friendships to rekindle - safely," EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen tweeted.

The EU currently only allows non-essential travel from seven countries.

But the proposals will also contain an "emergency brake" allowing member states to limit travel quickly in response to new variants or a deteriorating health situation in non-EU countries. This would be reviewed every two weeks.

Discussions on the plans will begin on Tuesday.

The EU has already announced plans for a digital certificate, which would cover anyone who is either vaccinated against Covid-19, has a negative test or has recently recovered.

In Canada, 11,140,391 people (29.31% of the population) have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Canada is set to begin receiving more than two million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine each week as the two pharmaceutical firms ramp up their deliveries and begin shipping shots from the United States.

Pfizer and BioNTech have been consistently delivering around one million doses from Brussels each week since mid-March, but those numbers will double over the next month before increasing further in June.

This week’s doses will also be the first to arrive from Pfizer’s plant in Kalamazoo, Mich., after the U.S. government previously restricted vaccine exports to inoculate its own citizens.

Like every CEO, Adam Froman, who leads Delvinia Holdings Inc., a research firm based in Toronto, got used to bracing for the unexpected in 2020.

But with much of the world locked down and unemployment rates at double-digit levels, it never occurred to him that he’d have to worry about poachers from international technology companies coming for his most talented staff.

Yet that’s what happened. In a new world that saw physical borders close and virtual ones open, highly skilled software engineers, data scientists, and coders didn’t have to go through the onerous process of getting a U.S. employment visa to work in Silicon Valley. Instead, when bedrooms became the new boardrooms, they could stay where they were, while getting a raise of about 30 per cent.

It was a new twist on an old problem. “Brain drain” has long been a challenge for Canadian technology firms, which struggle against the gravitational pull of Silicon Valley, Boston and other U.S. hotbeds for cutting edge research. Froman was forced to contend with a minor exodus of staff just as demand for his own services was taking off. He said many of his peers were dealing with the same issue.

Results

Between May and October 2020, 39 pets (29 dogs and 10 cats) of 21 patients were investigated. Nine dogs (31%) and four cats (40%) from 10 (47.6%) households were infected with or seropositive for SARS-CoV-2. Animals tested positive from 11 to 51 days after the human index COVID-19 case onset of symptoms. Three dogs tested positive twice within 14, 30, and 31 days apart. SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies were detected in one dog (3.4%) and two cats (20%). In this study, six out of thirteen animals either infected with or seropositive for SARS-CoV-2 have developed mild but reversible signs of the disease. Using logistic regression analysis, neutering, and sharing bed with the ill owner were associated with pet infection.

On 14 April, vice chairman of the Delhi Jal (water) Board, Raghav Chadha, "beseeched intervention" of the chief of Haryana state, which neighbours Delhi, to help meet the water requirements of 22 million people in the city. The capital is dependent on Haryana to ensure the supply of clean and adequate water to meet the needs of the people.

Amid a deep health crisis facing the Indian capital, with a lack of adequate oxygen to meet the needs of critically ill COVID-19 patients, another crisis involving inadequate water is looming large.

Delhi, which is in the middle of fighting an alarming surge in the number of COVID-19 infections, has been reporting a shortage of water since the onset of summer last month. Now, scarcity of water, it is feared, will hit the supplies of hospitals as well.

Delhi confirmed over 1.17 million cases of the COVID-19 as of 1 May, with over 16,000 fatalities and over a million recoveries. Hospitals are reporting an acute shortage of oxygen and ICU beds, besides medical supplies to treat such huge numbers of people.

One lawmaker in Delhi, Raghav Chadha, who is also the vice chairman of the Delhi Jal (Water) Board that regulates the city's water supply, warned that the crippling shortage of water "in the coming days might affect Delhi's hospitals also".

On 1 May, Chadha took to Twitter to pour out his angst at the extremely low water level in the River Yamuna after Haryana state reportedly did not release enough water.

Despite Centner’s eccentricities, Tatar had been pleased with the education his son was getting, with chiropractors, mindfulness coaches and a personal chef preparing organic, gluten- and sugar-free meals. Yelling and time-outs were banned. The school prioritized emotional well-being, language immersion — in Mandarin, French, Spanish, Italian and German — and physical health and nutrition.

But dissuading people from getting a vaccine approved by federal health authorities went too far. “It is our policy, to the extent possible, not to employ anyone who has taken the experimental COVID-19 injection until further information is known,” Centner wrote in an email to parents Monday.

Fearing that the health-conscious school might actually infect them and their children with a dangerous virus, parents bombarded the news media with complaints. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that COVID-19 vaccines are “safe and effective” and that millions of Americans have gotten them “under the most intense safety monitoring in U.S. history.”

“People believe her because she’s in a position of power,” Tatar said. “I really don’t want her to fire all the teachers with common sense and keep the teachers that are believing and feeding into this fake science news. ... What she’s doing is completely insane and unreasonable and dangerous.”

It could also be illegal.

Mark Richard, an attorney who represents the United Teachers of Dade and United Faculty of Miami Dade College, said a policy that bars employees from taking the vaccine could violate the Americans with Disabilities Act, as it interferes with the right to get medical treatment, especially for employees who are at higher risk.

“It would be like a cancer patient not getting chemotherapy,” he said.
