The proposed tenant assistance package appears to be word for word what this Council adopted less than a year ago. If Council laughs at the developer, they'd be laughing at their own decision. https://www.victoria...e Sept 2019.pdf

I truly do expect them to ask for greater terms than their own policy.

I can imagine the folks at 132 Menzies in the 3-storey "Cedar" building between Village Green and Thrifty Foods won't be terribly keen on a 6-storey building going up only a few meters from them.

It's a BC Housing property, I don't expect they'll complain about densification.

Not densification, but the perhaps loss of view/sunlight.

Every single councillor is a small thinker. It’s very dreadful.

Not a one of them would have a successful career in the private sector with their lack of sense.

Amid angst about a changing city, Victoria OKs housing project that means loss of mature trees

137-unit Village Green housing project is to be built in James Bay at 110 Menzies St., 111 Croft St. and 450-458 Niagara St.

“We need housing and we need rental housing. That’s very important. And we have been told this time and time again from the younger people who spoke today,” said Coun. Stephen Andrew, who noted the developer intends to plant more trees than will be removed. “That is a reasonable solution especially when some of them are suffering with disease.”

A redevelopment will bring 92 net new rental units to the corner of Menzies and Niagara streets in James Bay after getting the final go-ahead.

Victoria council on Thursday gave final approval to the 137-unit proposal’s rezoning and development permit.

The final vote on the project was pushed back by about a month so the city and developer, Primex Investments, could prepare a legal agreement giving some tenants the right to return at 20 per cent below market rent. That was secured after concerns were raised about some of the site’s current residents.

Primex Investments... [prepared]...a legal agreement giving some tenants the right to return at 20 per cent below market rent

And ensuring that other tenants will pay 20 per cent above market rent. Welcome to socialism.
