Any idea about potential candidates on the South Island in either this year or next year's general election? Here are some of my thoughts:

Esquimalt-Metchosin

Incumbent Mitzi Dean (NDP) is very likely running again

BC Liberal: Probably not Barb Desjardins again. Maybe someone from Colwood or Metchosin?

Green: ?

NDP: Mitzi Dean

Langford-Juan de Fuca

Incumbent John Horgan (NDP) is running again

BC Liberal: ? (Could this finally be Stew Young's time to risk it, maybe in anticipation of this potentially being Horgan's last term, therefore opening up 2025 for him)

Green: ?
NDP: John Horgan

Oak Bay-Gordon Head

Incumbent Andrew Weaver (Independent, former Green) retiring.

BC Liberal: Roxanne Helme (Nominated)

Green: ?

NDP: ? (Marianne Alto?)

Saanich North-Islands

Incumbent Adam Olsen (Green) is running again

BC Liberal: Stephen Roberts again? I know he's still president of the riding assocation. I could also see a current or former municipal politician, such as Carl Jensen or Steve Price, going for it

Green: Adam Olsen

NDP: Gary Holman has maintained his community presence, but may be heading towards retirement. Maybe Central Saanich councillor Zeb King? (known NDPer)

Saanich South

Incumbent Lana Popham (NDP) is running again

BC Liberal: David Calder again?

Green: ?

NDP: Lana Popham

Victoria-Beacon Hill

Incumbent Carole James (NDP) retiring

BC Liberal: ?

Green: ? (Maybe Kalen Harris again? Racelle Kooy? Or even Lisa Helps?)

NDP: ?

Could Ben Isitt take a run here? For the NDP (his traditional home, but now seems quite unlikely)? The Greens? Maybe even the nascent Eco-Socialists?)

Victoria-Swan Lake

Incumbent Rob Fleming (NDP) presumed to be running again

BC Liberal: ?

Green: ? (Or maybe Racelle Kooy here? Not sure where she lives)

NDP: Presumed to be Rob Fleming?

Oak Bay, Michelle Kirby is putting her name forward for the NDP nomination. She was useless as an OB Councillor and Jeremy Loveday thinks she'll be great....Just remember she was part of the decision team that installed that traffic mess at Fort/Foul Bay and Cadboro Bay in front of OB High School. Its a disaster...

Fred Haynes - where's Fred in here - has been chomping at the bit for years for a chance - any party that would take him.

Now we know Jeremy Caradonna is pursuing the VBH nomination under the Green banner.

Based on his track record as Saanich Mayor, he's proven to be a bag of hot air. We all know its Colin Plants show to run, I dont think Saanich will be well served by Plant when he gets the Mayors chair unless there are a proper mix of councillors to hold him to account which seems to be not the case.

To early for him, plus he won't want to align with the losing team. I could see him taking a shot at Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke for the federal Liberals when Randall Garrison retires.

Yikes, that might be tough for a Saanich-ite. The riding is firmly zeroed in on the West Shore and Sooke, with View Royal I think being tolerable as a place of residency for an MLA but beyond that I just can’t see it. In future I can see another split that removes the Saanich, VR and Esquimalt portions.

Really? I don't have the numbers, but just from eyeballing a map of ESS it looks like 25% to a third of the population would be in the Saanich portion

Right, so about 70% outside of Saanich. Add Esquimalt to Saanich and you’re at about 60% in View Royal onwards.

It’s one of the most head scratching ridings, in my opinion, and a chimera only a mother could love or a statistician could devise. All over the place, from ultra rural in the fringes of Shirley to high density urban in Esquimalt.

Know it all.

I can beat that. I seriously doubt I will like any of the candidates who run in any of the ridings on the Island.

   and

when's the last time provincial Conservatives ran in CRD? The party seems to barely exist I doubt they'll put any effort in ridings like ours that seem to mostly go NDP and Green

I'll bet the conservatives have a record result in the next election. Not saying they'll get any seats, but the bc libs seem a bit lost right now. I'll bet more people will throw the cons a vote for the hell of it

Is there even a BC Conservative party? We used to think of the Liberal party as the conservative wing of BC politics.
