Kalen Harris, who ran for the Greens in Victoria-Beacon Hill in 2017 (and came second with over 30% of the vote) posted on Facebook this morning that he's collecting signatures for the proposed BC Green candidate in the riding...but when asked he refused to answer who that proposed candidate is. Bad sign for Jeremy Caradonna who has been public about seeking the nomination...?

It has been confirmed that the pro-tenting Change.org counter-petition to the one launched by Cynthia Diadick used the photo of a baby crawling around Beacon Hill Park that has since been featured in an NDP campaign image (same baby, different photo).

Ben Isitt announces that he's not running provincially: https://www.facebook...164117664870548

I have received inquiries from supporters, residents and members of the media regarding my intentions in the current provincial election.

To lay this speculation to rest, I am announcing that I will continue to do the job that I have been elected to do – stand up for people and the planet as a City Councillor and Regional Director in Victoria, BC.

Curious, as the NDP's Victoria-Beacon Hill riding association chose Grace Lore five days ago. Does Ben's announcement today suggest he was considering running for a different party, or in a different riding?

Guess he's still got unfinished business at the municipal level.

WoW! Indication of the upcoming radicalisation of the NDP? 😉

He is a straight white male. He does not meet the official criteria of the NDP for new candidates.

Too funny, the guy is kryptonite and untouchable. No sane group would consider that idiot. He's so full of himself that he issues a press release indicating he's staying in local politics...read between the lines...what he's really saying is nobody asked him and nobody answered his repeated calls.

Perhaps a few locals are finally waking up to this guy and what he truly represents ideologically - he got some pretty snippy responses to that tweet, lol......

You're a useless crazy person. Please resign

He won’t. The destruction of Beacon Hill Park and the effect it’s had in the surrounding communities is his Marxist dream come true.

^Yes it's worth a read.....I can see him closing his Twitter account once again

It was rumoured that he was pursuing a nomination from the Greens in VBH, but who knows. Rumours are just that.

So now that Ben realizes he doesn’t have a political future beyond little ‘ol Victoria City Hall - now what? Maybe he goes off to Central America to help torment a new revolution - wouldn’t be surprised. Speaking of leaving, and elections, remember the Green city councillor Sonya Chandler to go to England on a scholarship, triggering a by-election.

Now he prepares the groundwork for his 2022 CoV mayoral (ĐŒŃŃ€) run.

But back to provincial politics with the announced sales tax cut being a desperate and poorly thought out Hail Mary as the NDP has a 18 point lead. Best Leader poll results - Horgan 44%, Wilkinson 14%, Furstenau 6%.

https://globalnews.c..._medium=Twitter

Even prominent former Liberal George Abbot thinks it’s a terrible idea as per the TC article below. Yah, brilliant idea, lets remove 7 billion dollars in revenue in just one year - it’s not like we need it right now to deal with homelessness, crime, supporting those in need affected by the pandemic. It just adds to our debt, reducing our ability to provide services or eventually reduce taxes well into the future. From the TC:

“ The sales tax cut would cost about five times as much as that long-ago income tax. [referencing Gordon Campbell’s 2001 personal income tax cut] It’s of general benefit across-the-board to all taxpayers, when what’s needed is targeted help to people who most need it, he said. “If we’re prepared to go even deeper in debt, what would we want in benefits? I’d be inclined to put that money into projects directly beneficial to the people who are most vulnerable and disadvantaged.”
Abbott said people who are unemployed and are facing homelessness would not get a direct benefit. The cut would mean billions of dollars are not available for direct programs.

Wilkinson’s move is designed to restore consumer confidence, but Abbott said the fiscal crisis is not due to lack of spending or unemployment. It’s the wholesale disruption of the economy created by COVID-19.”

As Abbott also said of the 2001 Liberal tax cut: “The dream of doing more with less was transformed into the harsh reality of doing less with less.”

People don’t mind paying taxes as long as they get the services they need, feel safe, healthy and can lead productive lives where their efforts are fairly rewarded. Oh.. and their children and grandchildren’s future isn’t mortgaged to do so. Sure, rates are low for now, yes, we will need to spend more during COVID, but let’s not also cut off billions of dollars of tax revenue at the same time. Maybe the Liberals should have put an economist in place as their leader instead of a doctor/lawyer. The Liberals should have turfed him last year before it was too late.
