It looks like I won't be missing much being in the Caribbean on Canada Day.

Thank you Todd. I am not sure how "deserving" I am, but I certainly intend to enjoy my time away.

Will you be loaning out your A/C unit to some not quite so poor family while you're away on your multiple cruises?

Just 8 days for this cruise; not worth the hassle. Talk to me in October when I head to Rome. 🤑

I miss having the Canada Day picnic in Beacon Hill Park. When it first started, the food trucks were all down on Dallas Road below the flag pole. Was a great place for it and then the fireworks were over Clover Point.

Yes, it got quite breezy only way in the evening. I figured that’s what it might have been.

Seattle Times:

48 of 55 drones pulled from lake after SeaTac's Fourth of July show failure

The saga of the 55 failed drones at the bottom of Angle Lake continued Wednesday.

Divers spent much of the morning searching, and they found 48 of them and their batteries. The city of SeaTac spent $40,000 for the disastrous Fourth of July event.

A spectacular Fourth of July drone show saw 55 of 200 drones drop out of the sky, with the drone light show producer pointing to outside interference as a possible cause.

No one was hurt as the drones fell harmlessly into Angle lake in a suburb of Seattle, Washington.

Victoria City Council is considering a proposal to maintain Canada Day celebrations at their 2024 level, potentially reversing earlier budget cuts to the festivities.

In a report to council dated March 28, City of Victoria Director of Business and Community Relations Kerri More outlined the financial challenges facing this year’s July 1 celebrations.

Initially, council had proposed reducing the event to a daytime-only celebration to save costs, allocating $255,000 compared to the $478,421 budgeted for Canada Day in 2024.

However, council recently approved an additional one-time funding of $100,000 from the Major Community Initiatives and Events Grant, bringing the 2025 Canada Day budget to $325,000.

Despite the boost, Moore’s report said there is a $100,000 shortfall remaining if the city wants to deliver an event on the same scale as last year’s, which included vendors and activities from 10 a.m. onwards, culminating in the city’s first-ever drone show, followed by the traditional fireworks display.

The shortfall became more manageable when the Victoria Hockey Legacy Society’s bid to host the U17 World Hockey Challenge fell through, freeing up the previously allocated $250,000.

Anybody know why Canada Day costs so much?

It looks like in 2022 we did it for $250,000.

City of Victoria to provide $350,000 to Canada Day bash

A staff report noted that while this year’s Canada Day festivities were well received, an increase in funding is required to maintain the quality and scope of the celebration.

“$350,000 is the new $250,000,” Jeff Day, the city’s senior cultural planner, told council Thursday.
