I am surprised they are letting the kids sing the national anthem.

My thoughts as well.  My guess is that the merry band of misfits in council have lost control over the celebration.

Will Canadian flags be allowed at Canada Day celebrations and/or will the police be stopping anyone who is seen with one in their possession like they did earlier this year?

Well they raised the updated LGBT flag at City Hall for the week, wouldn't be surprised if they do the same thing at Ships Point.

You will note that the anthem is to be sung after the open ceremonies and the FN dancers. Perhaps the FN agreed to have the anthem sung after they have finished and left.

Least is more colourful than the drab red and white

Why not make your own flag with what you think it’s like within the borders of Canada

What is the scoop with the changes to the flag?

Being supportive isn't enough. You must wear the ribbon!

Heard through the grapevine that the bike valet service offered during Canada Day is sponsored by Cool Aid.

Good for them for wanting to help out.

Plans coming together. Looks like a really small area has been set aside to view the entertainment and fireworks though.

Victoria’s Canada Day celebration will end with a spectacular fireworks display over Victoria’s Inner Harbour. Music featuring Indigenous recording artists will be mixed by The Zone at 91.3's DJ Boitano to accompany the fireworks. The fireworks take place at 10:20 p.m.

Hopefully that means a Robbie Robertson and Rita Coolidge mash-up.

More likely this. https://www.thezone....-system-update/

Songs that address the impact of the residential school system

Wouldn't be Canada Day in Victoria without telling Settlers how pathetic and worthless they are.

I almost feel sorry for the woke for carrying around so much guilt for something none of them did.

Oh, nobody carries actual guilt, it's just signaling.   I don't see many wills that leave estates to the natives.  And that would be the ultimate gift, no?  "Sorry I used your land while I was alive, but now that I'm gone, you can have it back, legally".

So glad we're in the Selkirk area which means we hit the Gorge Rd CD celebration each year, which IMO is the best in the region - no politically correct b***s***, no politically charged or driven narrative about the meany settlers - just an unabashed celebration of what it means to be CANADIAN....inclusive of *all* Canadians....

It is quintessentially Canadian to the core, routinely draws 20-30,000 people and includes live bands playing in front yards, road hockey games everywhere along the strip, food trucks, music, oh and did I mention beer drinking including on many private residence/front lawns where owners essentially set up impromptu 'beer gardens' including chairs set up so anyone can sit down, rest, quaff a drink...whatever so long as they are behaving and enjoying themselves; and includes all of Gorge Rd which is blocked off from Tillicum to Admirals, in an idyllic setting on the Gorge waterway.

There are no pretensions, no BS, no agenda's, no political speeches (ahem a la JT) intoning that to be 'Canadian' one should be a 'feminist' blah blah blah.........nothing except a damned good old fashioned rollicking street celebration with lots and lots and LOTS of Canadian flags flying proudly all along the route amidst all the hockey games and beer and residents laughing, playing and getting along peacefully and joyfully. As it should be.....

Sounds like something they’d invoke the Emergencies Act for. Careful

There used to be great street hockey in front of the Empress a few years back. It was fun to go down and just people watch. Having the big picnic in Beacon Hill was good too. Now it seems like everything's been taken away.
