I'm a life long Langford resident am getting so fed up with all this crap. Both sides in this matter are doing their very best to make Langfordites look like the three toothers everyone always thought we were. I really don't care who is in the council seats at this time, and oddly enough neither does anyone I know in Langford, be it friends, acquaintances or neighbours. Everyone is just fine and going about our business. I reluctantly joined both of the opposing groups FB pages so I could attempt to sort through the utter BS that both sides are putting out.
Its sickening. This council won the right to govern because the last one got complacent. They have earned the right to do their business. If we don't like what they are doing, well we can turf them out. I agree with everyones right to disagree, but this is getting ridiculous.

So you should be frustrated, but I wouldn’t hang my hat on the source being rhetoric. That’s not what’s keeping your municipality from being its best.

You sound frustrated that the politicians you voted for cannot carry through with the promises they made to you on the campaign trail. It’s a lot easier to be critical from the side lines, than executing the plans from the driver’s seat.
So you should be frustrated, but I wouldn’t hang my hat on the source being rhetoric. That’s not what’s keeping your municipality from being its best.
To be honest, I didn't expect too much when I voted. Would much rather had a more moderate, middle of the road option. I wasn't overwhelmed with the newcomers, and felt the old ones were past their best before date. My frustration is the continual bleating and antics of a core group that just can't accept that the only man who could possibly save us from ourselves lost. Not unlike when Richard Atwell took out Leonard in Saanich. I don't care if this council comes back or not. Come election time I'll take a look at how my situation is going and vote accordingly.

The City of Langford said residents can expect another tax hit this year after the province and federal government offloaded the costs of 911 services to some municipalities.
For Langford, the cost of emergency calls and dispatches to West Shore RCMP means the city will be on the hook for $1.5 million this year, which will represent a 2.7 per cent tax increase for property owners, and $2.1 million in the years that follow — a 2 per cent tax hit every year.
Langford Mayor Scott Goodmanson said municipalities that use E-Comm 911 services on Southern Vancouver Island are being unfairly singled out to shoulder the costs of emergency calls. “Right now there’s an inequity of how it’s being paid for,” said Goodmanson. “The vast majority of British Columbians don’t pay for emergency dispatch.”
“We’re not expecting a free ride, but there are other ways, such as landline and cellphone charges, to fund this service, which is pennies a person, not an inequitable hit that’s on the homeowner.”
Langford said about 40 other B.C. municipalities, with populations ranging from 5,700 to 160,000, still have dispatch services paid for entirely by the province and Public Safety Canada because they are dispatched through a provincial operational communications centre.
Langford and other municipalities on the South Island, however, including Victoria and Saanich, have their 911 dispatching services through E-Comm in Saanich, which is owned by member municipalities, police boards and provincial and federal agencies.

And there goes another municipality breaking WTO rules. Confirming that we cheat at trade.

Ernhill Park, located near the south end of Glen Lake, was renamed Winnie Sifert Park in honour of Sifert’s decades of service to Langford, including 27 years on council.

Thank God that is over. What is Sterling and his usual annoying group of callers from Langford going to talk about now? I swear this council could cure cancer and it still wouldn't be enough for these people.

It’s good to see a municipal government follow through with a pledge it had made to a long-serving politician. Walking back or delaying a park naming was not a good look.

We know taxes have risen substantially, and taxpayers now own a rec facility they’ll have to maintain and pay down. The RCMP detachment has been delayed, and costs have only risen. There has been no new non-development road building, at all, and we still have little action on the sidewalk front, that was central to the current council. Housing costs have increased substantially, as the pipeline of new housing has slowed. More affordable and more environmentally friendly new housing was also a tenet of the new council.

Langford has some of the largest retaining walls in the country I believe.
And damn proud of it.

What improvements or positive changes has Langford seen since the change in government?

Well, they are talking about taking over garbage pickup and making it a municipal service. They can't do it for free, so I suppose it means a property tax increase. Well, I guess if you rent, you will get it for "free".

Renters currently receive garbage pickup via their building management. So do condos.
Municipal garbage pick-up is not a good deal.
