The whole issue is much ado about nothing.

I guess it's true what they say: you're damned if you ADU and damned if you adon't.

Which reminds me, whatever happened to soccer player Freddy Adu?

Some of the most successful things are about nothing.

Hence the expression, "There's nothing to it."

$19,800,000

3200 Clam Bay Rd
Pender Island, British Columbia V0M2M1

Presenting the offering of an architecturally significant home in the Gulf Island - the Point House by notable West Coast Modern architects Bo Helliwell and Kim Smith of Blue Sky Architecture. The exquisite waterfront home is situated on a 105 acre estate on North Pender Island that overlooks Navy Channel and faces the sun-illuminated mountains of Mayne Island. The property includes a sustainable organic farm, the shoreline of Davidson Bay, 50 foot dock, an idyllic pond, and acres of untouched old-growth forest. Characteristically west coast with its Douglas Fir exposed structure, the house differs from the norm through a masterful use of curved lines. the undulating rood mirrors the gentle curves of the island's landforms, while curved backbones of the home follows curve of the point. The Point House is effortlessly accessed by boat, float plane, or ferry from Vancouver.

Untouched old growth? Hasn’t that island been clear cut at least twice?

Assessed value is only $9 million.

Maybe they did a bathroom reno without a permit and that’s not been reflected in the assessment.

Royal Roads University is expanding programming to Salt Spring Island after receiving the largest donation in the university’s history.

The gift, from the estate of the late Susan Bagley Bloom, includes two acreages on the island near Beddis Beach with waterfront gardens, an orchard of heritage fruit trees, an “architecturally significant” house and a foreshore lease.

Faculty members are “full of ideas about what we could do with an extraordinary place like this,” said Royal Roads president Philip Steenkamp, who described the property as “quite magical.”

The donation is valued at $9.93 million, which includes $5.27 in funds for ongoing maintenance and improvement of the land, as well as programming and events.

Bloom was a longtime resident of the island who was a granddaughter of U.S. tobacco tycoon R.J. Reynolds.

She was an environmental philanthropist and pioneer in land conservation and sustainability, Royal Roads said in a statement.

That’s a nice hood.

Atkins road is pretty bad though, locals use it as a cross road to get from south to north or west, so traffic can be constant, not to mention the hydro transmission towers.

The two people found deceased in a liferaft washed up on Sable Island (off Nova Scotia) are reportedly a couple from Salt Spring Island, Brett Clibbery and Sarah Packwood:

A 42-hectare waterfront property on Galiano Island has been turned into a nature reserve.

Dubbed the Talking Trees Nature Reserve, the parcel includes old-growth Douglas fir, 600 metres of undeveloped rocky shoreline, coastal bluffs, Garry oak woodlands and wetlands.

It’s one of the last intact tracts of mature forest on Galiano Island, said Chessi Miltner, executive director of the Galiano Conservancy Association.

Among the at-risk species within the reserve are the northern red-legged frog, great blue heron, olive-sided flycatcher and common nighthawk.

Talking Trees is one of eight projects covering an overall total of 316 hectares selected for financial support through the Old Growth Nature Fund, established by the provincial and federal governments.

The fund provided $1.77 million to the conservancy, which used $1.75 million to purchase the land with the remainder going to legal fees and other costs.

Low bank, walk-on beaches on the Gulf Islands are exceedingly rare. Privately owned islands here are arguably rarer. To feature BOTH on one property makes this truly the most unique of offerings. ''Waterlea,'' as it is affectionately known is made up of roughly 3.5 acres of low bank waterfront. Surrounded by sandy beaches on 3 sides, a +/-1 acre private island and featuring Canada’s first olive grove with 80+ olive trees, this opportunity is not to be missed. A boater’s sanctuary, the Gulf Islands are known for their gorgeous vistas, calm waters, safe harbours and marinas. The 114 year old manor is a rustic farmhouse that sits just feet away from the water’s edge and boasts dramatic aquatic views from every principal room. Sit back on the deck and watch the otters play, the eagles soar, and the orcas swim through the kelp beds. For those who know...it’s paradise, actually!
