James Cameron called the whole thing reckless and foolish, and says the design of the submersible was subpar.

He said he and his colleagues in that industry already knew what had happened but wouldn’t publicly disclose it out of respect for the families.

So Watcher may have been right, in that Cameron alluded to the company being operated out of Canada because it may not have been held to the same standard it would have been held to in the US.

No, most things are not.

Some people don’t drive over the Malahat.

Some people don’t eat high cholesterol foods

You can do whatever YOU want as long as it doesn’t bother me (or others)

looks like Canada.

“ 2021 new ownership
In November 2021 the ship was purchased by Miawpukek Horizon Maritime Service Ltd, a joint venture between Horizon Maritime and the Miawpukek First Nation, a company that has trained Indigenous cadets as seafarers for offshore supply vessels. The new owners chartered the ship to SOI Foundation for expedition use for education, research and ocean conservation. “: https://en.m.wikiped...rt#Polar_Prince

Probably not much regulation for these types of research subs

There is, there are standards. This company, according to Cameron, should not have been going to those depths with their style of vessel.

I guess Cameron is a bit of an expert as he designs submersibles. I didn’t know that before this incident.

Can I see the PDF of the regulations/standards? They’re probably not very good if they have them

Would be surprised if US had more strict regulations

That being said, Transport Canada is notorious for not requiring much for small vessels

This thing had the same safety standards as a PlayStation.

Yes, it’s all public.

I’m just going by what an expert was saying about this situation. Cameron called it basic engineering that this vessel, he believes, lacked.

There will be no IMO number for the submersible. The ship that carried them out to international waters may carry a Canadian flag but what happens next is passengers get into an unlicensed submersible and descend from international waters. The submersible itself isn’t governed by any flag or regulations.

I don't believe there is a license per se, it lacked certification, which all the other deep diving subs comply with. Built to established industry standards.
