District staff have recommended an overarching site plan and redesign for the Lambrick Park Campus.

A staff report notes all park assets were designed as single-use for baseball, soccer, lacrosse, lawn bowling, and tennis, while modern active recreation facilities in other communities are now being designed as multi-sport facilities, and often include opportunities for non-sport programming.

I hope somebody tells them you can’t combine a tennis court with a baseball diamond.

What kind of non-sport programming do they have in mind? Areas for drag queen story hours?

Be interesting to know which councillors had to be convinced to "get on board" for the Lambrick Park upgrade: the facility has been a key cornerstone for literally over 50++ years of thousands of kids growing up in Gordon Head for all the sports noted, including moi (soccer).

As the area has only grown and will continue to do so into the future why would anyone require arm twisting to spend a few bucks (relative to the other projects) for youth/adult activities on the largest such multi-sport complex in the area in one of its most densely populated neighbourhoods?

Why does it all have to be done at once?

Saanich council opts to go slow on a Lambrick Park refresh that could cost tens of millions

Saanich is set to begin work this year on a multi-year upgrade of Lambrick Park that could include a new ice facility

Council voted this week in favour of a phased approach to upgrading the area known as the Lambrick Campus, bordered by Torquay Drive and Feltham Road and including Gordon Head Recreation Centre, baseball diamonds, a lawn-bowling facility, playing fields, a lacrosse box, skate park and tennis courts.

They could use a couple of ice sheets with the Ian Stewart complex closing soon.

They should sell a bit of land and make some money to help finance.

If they looked at the entire area here including two school lands and parking lots, a little more holistically, they might be able to do a nice overall job.  Probably too much to ask.

Community imagines future of Lambrick Park, and many people hope it’s on ice

https://cheknews.ca/...on-ice-1297142/

Nearby resident Rod Saxby says he’d use it in a heartbeat. “I’m sure I’d be taking my grandkids there,” he says.

And there’s a reason people are eager. Ice time in Greater Victoria is already at a premium, and the nearest rink, the aging Ian Stewart Complex at UVic, is set to be demolished in 2027.

There’s a reason hockey players coming out of Sooke dominate local sports. They have the rink all to themselves pretty much at SEAPARC. The rest of the region competes heavily for ice time.

Know it all.

SEAPARC is seasonal, right?  It's dry-floor through the summer?

I wonder how many all-year rinks we have.  Maybe none?  Or maybe Oak Bay is year-round now.  Maybe one at Pearkes too.

You have to build them a bit differently if they have all-year ice.  Because if you don't, you essentially freeze the ground many, many feet deep, and that becomes problematic.  Like a frost heave.
