I think you'd find that people in general dislike percussive sounds, regardless of how loud they are (and basketballs are definitely percussive when bounced).

Tools like nail guns, hammer drills, jack hammers, etc bother everybody.

Pickleball is definitely highly percussive in nature.

Neighbours are seemingly far more tolerant of consistent, or droning sounds like lawn mowers, leaf blowers, pressure washers, etc even if those mechanical devices are technically far louder than a pickleball paddle.

People in general have little time for percussive sounds intruding into their homes, regardless of how technically loud they are.

Quantifying those loudness levels seems to be the only way the conversation can be moved forward to any degree though, so it's likely a good first step when considering that Pickleball appears as if it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

It’s a bothersome noise.

None of the people who play at courts next to someone else’s home, would want that noise next to their home.

When buying a home, choose wisely. Ensure you know what’s planned near you. Consult someone who can brief you if you’re not sure.

I think it's the repetitive nature of the thwack thwack thwack, not the volume as such. It never ends!

Yes. It’s very invasive and eventually it gets to you.

Good on North Saanich for having sense. All of the people upset over the decision wouldn’t tolerate an identical disturbance nearby. By the fact that they disagree with the closure, means they cannot relate to the disturbance and consider it someone else’s burden.

Quick trip to the little big city yesterday to help someone move. Walking back from Jones BBQ (!!) after lunch, an adult and a kid were playing pickleball on Mason st there by Taco Justice and I have to say it was irritating as hell. Worse than tennis, the hard plastic really makes a lot of noise.

Does that make me old?

Maybe relax and watch the CIBC-sponsored Texas Open pickleball event on TV today.

Our driveway would be good for it. I could charge money and drive the neighbours crazy.

Nanaimo plans to create eight new pickleball courts in 130-acre Beban Park, where there are no neighbours to be bothered by noise.

The additional Beban Park courts will replace six heavily used courts at Beaufort Park, where neighbours complain about daily noise.

“It has really just been a colossal nightmare,” said David Maloney, whose house is about 10 metres from the court.

These houses have front porches: What's happening with Wadams Farm development in Sooke

First phase of Wadams Farm housing development nearing completion

The first houses will go on sale on June 15 and are to be completed in July, said Luke Ramsay, Aragon development manager.

_______

The development’s main amenity area will include a pickleball-multi-purpose court, a children’s playground with natural features and a 10,000-square-foot dog park.

Any word on when the first pickleball noise complaints are expected?

I'm pretty sure you will be required to sign a waiver saying you know the pickleball will be in operation, and you don't have any recourse regarding noise.

Why would a develoer install the most contentious sport court possible?  Wheh he is trying to sell and rent units.

My singular interaction with the game leads me to believe this will be a detraction, not a selling feature.

This sport is best left in someone else’s neighbourhood.

Yes, it's a popular sport.  Universally, neighbours hate it.

And looking at that site map, the likely place is among dozens of close neighbours.  Assuming that is it, where is says "Pocket Park"

All I hear is cheap hard plastic banging around, best left in a gymnasium.
