🔹After two decade hiatus, historic All Sooke Day event coming back this summer on Aug 19🔹

Mark your calendar for the return of All Sooke Day, a family picnic with music, a logging show, crafts and food vendors planned for Saturday, August 19th at Fred Milne Park 8AM-6PM.

The formerly annual celebration was focused on the history of logging operations and logging sport in Sooke, and its return to the community comes more than twenty years after being cancelled due to a decline in logging sport interest in the early 2000s, after a 70-year run.

Today, the logging sports industry is booming, and All Sooke Day is making a much anticipated comeback. The original event was described by organizers like so:

“The first All Sooke Day was billed as a ‘Celebration of the Progress of Sooke’ in 1934, held to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the discovery of gold in the region and the 1864 origin of metal mining. The format at the time was like a community picnic with events such as egg and spoon races and greased pole climbing. Later a logger sports show became a key part of the annual event.”

There is no website for the event.

At long last, all those hipster dudes with their 19th century, prospector beards will have an event to call their own.

Log birling was always fun.

And the thing where they climb up the pole and top it.  I forget if they use an axe or a chainsaw.  Or maybe they just ring a bell at the top.  I forget.

The ‘All Sooke Day Story’ was filmed in July of 1985.

Some of those events look downright dangerous.  "Running with a chainsaw" seems popular.

Beer with the chainsaw might be more exciting again.

Miss those events. Got to see them as a young boy. The log roll was a highlight for sure.
