Low returns so far for chum, coho on Goldstream River

 

Only 1,500 chum had been counted on the river as of Saturday, down from 5,100 counted up to the same date last year

The sea lions were really early in Saanich inlet, there 3 weeks ago already. I bet they are so hungry they are eating a lot of the runs.

About 600,000 people visit Goldstream Park every year, especially during the summer and fall salmon-spawning months.

If that figure is accurate, how does that place it as an attraction in Victoria?

Gotta be up there. It’s really hard to get a parking spot there sometimes.

About 20 000 a month to the visitor center in the busy fall season. Campgrounds, school visits, hikers etc. all add up.

No indication in the article how they arrived at about 600,000.

 

In 2023 “Our 33 CRD Regional Parks see about five million visits a year – that’s a lot of footsteps through the trails,” said Devon Smith, communications coordinator, noting that in the last 10 years, visitation has increased by almost 50 per cent.

 

No indication of how that number  is arrived at.

Regional parks continue to see unprecedented visitation. From January to April 2021, CRD Regional Parks recorded over 2.7 million visits – more than 20% increase over the same time period in 2020. 

This follows a record-setting year in 2020 when, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, residents turned to regional parks as safe places to recreate and connect with nature. Regional parks saw over 8.5 million visits last year – an increase of 13% from 2019, when there were 7.5 million visits.

That's an average of 1,643 per day, 365 days per year.  I don't think it can be that high.

I have no idea how they’d count this either. The campground they can count. The rest is gonna be an estimate. It’s far busier there in November than now I’m sure.
