The Cathedral District isn't now, nor ever was old town.

And it should be, as Old Town is vastly superior to anywhere else in Victoria when it comes to urbanism. You'd think that more modern planners can do a better job, but apparently not so.

Would the parents of the CCC students mind funding the entire restoration/seismic upgrade of the cathedral through their children's tuition?

Can't find the attendance (nor the tuition) on the school site, but "Our Kids, The Trusted Source" says an enrolment of 270.

 

300 kids at $9,000 is $2,700,000, which doesn't seem like a lot of money to operate and staff a school. The cupcake sales for the seismic upgrades will go on till Ben Isitt builds himself a three-car garage.

Each child should get funding provincially too (for non international students). It probably works out to 17k/ kid altogether. What isn’t funded at all for private schools is the capital costs.

The church likely provides some operational funding, no? At the very least there is no capital costs to pay to operate the school, I imagine?

St. Patrick’s is about $5,500/year for a Catholic, non-Catholics pay about $6,000.

Hard to say there are no capital costs. Buildings need work beyond the scope of normal maintenance over time. When a roof needs replacing or a parking lot resurfacing that’s typically covered by the churches.
