Esquimalt residents have wondered for years about what commercial options would be going in at the Town Square development.

 

Now we know a little more although more details will be forthcoming on Dec. 18 when Aragon Properties will offer more information at a news conference at 3:30 p.m. at 505 Park Pl.

 

A public house will occupy 2,930 sf commercial retail space at the corner of Park Place and Esquimalt Road at Esquimalt Town Square, leased to local operator Demian Merino.

 

Born and raised in Victoria, Merino has been in the restaurant business for over 30 years. Early in his career, he worked for Freehouse Collective (formerly the Donnelly Group) in Vancouver, who owns and manages over ten pubs and restaurants across the city. Most recently, he was the general manager of the Victoria Pub Company, managing local favorites like Bard & Banker and Irish Times.

 

The new public house is slated to open in late spring 2024 at 101-505 Park Pl. in Esquimalt.

Merino, that’s a long-time Victoria family, no?

Yes it is. Father is (was?) an artist.   There has been some tragedy in that family too.

Yes indeed.

Looking forward to seeing the concept. This has been talked about for a few weeks now, but hush hush. Great for Esquimalt.

But there is a watering hole of sorts in the town, the Driftwood brewery has a tasting facility that runs like a pub, next to Great Canadian Wholesale.

The Tudor House is long gone, the Carlton is gone, what else is/was there?

Gorge Pub was in Esquimalt, gone.

 

Spinnakers is close to Esquimalt.   500m?

Cambie also gone, for development. It closed some time ago.

The Eagles fraternity have a bar, but it’s member-only I believe.
