The entire board of directors from an all-girls private school in Victoria has resigned over financial issues at the school.

In an email sent to parents at St. Margaret’s School on Monday night, the school said the board – including the chair – resigned “due to financial distress, which could not be resolved by the current team.”

Victoria city gets its next look at the plan to redevelop the Glenlyon Norfolk School campus on Richmond Avenue at the April 9 committee meeting.  The private school proposes a phased redevelopment of its campus, including consolidation of eight adjacent residential properties to the existing school lands. The plan includes phased deconstruction of all but one existing building. New construction would include institutional and residential to a 31 per cent increase in total floor area and about 16 residential units.  The existing sports field along Richmond Avenue would be relocated to the Maddison Street frontage, with reorientation of school buildings to front Richmond.

Glenlyon Norfolk School has cleared an early but massive hurdle in its bid to expand its Richmond Avenue campus.

Victoria council voted unanimously this week to endorse a rezoning application that will enable the independent school to expand its footprint by more than 30 per cent through redeveloping eight adjacent residential properties.

The first phase of the project will involve a new academic building, athletic facility and a new road that aims to improve traffic flow and address some of the parking issues in the area.

Chad Holtum, headmaster of Glenlyon Norfolk, called the city’s approval a “pretty big moment in our journey.”
