Maybe axe the hyperbole, dude.

The YMCA-YWCA of Vancouver Island is preparing for another legal battle to block road construction through wilderness near its Camp Thunderbird site at Glinz Lake in the Sooke Hills.

The group said it’s prepared to do whatever it takes to protect the wilderness.

“The main thing from our perspective is we’ll do everything we can to prevent a highway from going through the middle of Camp Thunderbird,” said Derek Gent, chief executive of the Island organization.

Sooke was a logging and fishing town. I was a deckhand out of Sooke. Poor logging management killed many spawning rivers. The seiners took too much. The fish processing and working harbour was killed and it became a bedroom community.

Building a shopping mall and a new highway is not the path to economic prosperity…

held the mineral rights for three sections of land for purposes other than mining.

Gent said the company is a group of real estate developers. “We believe the primary intent is to try to build a subdivision out there,” he said, noting the YMCA-YWCA joined a complaint filed by the deputy chief gold commissioner in late 2021.

How about investigating all the salmon spawning rivers and streams that were destroyed by clear cuts over the last century and making a plan to restore and protect them. Then rebuild the commercial fishery? That would be a useful use of our collective money.

The Alberta developers feel they have a right to an access road to property they own, that must cross through Camp Thunderbird. That's what this is all about. There will be no 'highway' there. This battle has been going on for many years.

Sounds like they have the mineral rights and don’t own the property.

THE RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A MINERAL TITLE HOLDER
The rights and responsibilities of persons involved in the exploration, development, and production of minerals, including the acquisition and maintenance of mineral titles, are defined in the Mineral Tenure Act. The exercise of these rights is entirely predicated on having a lawful and legitimate mining intent.

The commissioner, the chief regulatory authority overseeing mineral claims and leases in the province, had removed the mineral titles after concluding the company, Alberta-based Victoria Teleport Corp., held the mineral rights for three sections of land for purposes other than mining.

I'll do the job of the Journalists.... https://www.bccourts...CSC0511cor1.htm

The following facts are not disputed by the parties:

On October 11, 2019, VTC became the recorded holder of the three mineral title claims in the vicinity of the YMCA Lands:

522939 overlaps with private property owned by the YMCA;

1056667 overlaps with private property known as Section 59 Goldstream District ("Section 59"); and

522940 is adjacent to Section 59, overlapping Section 60 Goldstream District.

(collectively, the "Mineral Claims")

·       The Mineral Claims are landlocked, such that gaining access to them requires entry onto private or crown lands.

·       Section 59 is owned by two Alberta Companies: Jaico Corp. and 1352115 Alberta Ltd. (the “Alberta Companies”).

·       The Alberta Companies are two of four plaintiffs in a civil action commenced in 2010 against the YMCA (and others) in which they seek to have a roadway leading to Section 59 declared a public roadway. VTC is not a party to the civil action.

·       VTC is affiliated with the Alberta Companies. One of the directors of Jaico Corp. is also a director of VTC, and 1352115 Alberta Ltd. is a shareholder of VTC.

·       VTC was originally incorporated in 2007 for the purpose of operating a telecommunications business on Section 59.

They have foot access. They should publicly state what minerals they intend to mine. Simple. The journalists should be hounding them for that opportunity.

Scott Bonartz is the Key Principal associated with Victoria Teleport Corporation. As the President of the company, he plays a significant role in its operations and decision-making

zero online footprint of "Scott Bonartz."

What kind of telecoms business would need to run in the middle of the woods in backwards Sooke, BC?

It's not a business at all.  Camp Thunderbird and the YMCA is real. These companies are shells...

Victoria Teleport Corporation has no online footprint except for this case and their corporate registration. The president of the company has zero online footprint.  They are an Alberta registered company with headquarters registered to a house in View Royal.

If I was the reporter I would have brought that to light. This is the case of a real entity that is local and does good and contributes to the community VS an secretive web of corporate shields.

Yep. Doesn't pass the sniff test at all. Judges should toss it and give court costs charges too.

It’s hardly a “highway through the YMCA thing”.

That doesn't matter and is the fault of the journalist. The affiliated shell companies are also trying to force a public road in....

The Alberta Companies are two of four plaintiffs in a civil action commenced in 2010 against the YMCA (and others) in which they seek to have a roadway leading to Section 59 declared a public roadway. VTC is not a party to the civil action.

So could possible end up a highway.

Nameless faceless corporations vs actual community members should always be opposed by default.  Scott Bonartz can show his face anytime. Apparently he lives here.
