The BC Greens have been making a tactical error for a long time. They should zero in on the environment and environment only. Their campaign should be, if you care about the environment, vote for us. Instead the BC Greens have been coming out with policies on every issue. Furstenau made a big mistake by coming out in favour of free drugs for the addicted.

There are plenty of dumps in the Shawnigan Lake area. The one dump Furstenau fought to stop has not changed any impacts on, or outcomes for Shawnigan Lake, at all. There is also the possibility that issue was overblown to create a political campaign.

The Greens had their time. The other parties are now more firmly in control of practical environment stewardship without the financially and socially crippling ideas of the Greens.

B.C. gov't to freeze hiring, cancel grocery rebate amid U.S. tariff threats

The provincial government of British Columbia announced it will freeze hiring any new public service employees due to the looming threat of U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods.

Speaking to media Thursday, Finance Minister Brenda Bailey says the tariffs have made it extremely challenging to prepare a budget, as scheduled for March 4.

In response, Bailey says the province has taken more action Thursday to expand the public service hiring pause "in all but positions that support core government programs and services."

Additionally, Bailey announced that the proposed provincial rebate on groceries will not be included in the upcoming budget.

So in order to win an election, Eby promises a $1000 grocery rebate to families and a promise to crack down on criminals.  He wins the election, cancels the rebate and continues to allow government funded "safe supply" opioids to be diverted away from their intended users even though he was well aware that there were bribes and kickbacks to certain organizations distributing these drugs.  Quite a deft politician.......

Lets not forget the Canadian promise of Universal health Care, Meanwhile 20% of the population does not even have a doctor and some emergency departments close at nights or weekends.

That’s a little over the top. “Share their names so everyone knows.”

If you’re going to go that far, more context is required.

Not sure Rustad needs to go under the cosh here - he did set them free to vote their conscience - but those five MLAs sure have some explaining to do.

As does any Canadian who supports Trump.

just to clear here I really dont like Trump but counter tariffs is a really stupid idea in terms of responding to Trump. It would hurt Canadians more than Americans and have little impact on their economy.

The better response, among many others, would be to cancel any patient rights and intellectual property rights of American companies. That would allow us to ramp up production of things like cheap pharmaceuticals and sell them to the rest of the world, Big Pharma along with all sorts of other companies would start beating Trump over the head.

That too would be worse for us if they did the same. What we need to do is stop talking war and keep talking law and negotiation. Focus and drugs and human trafficking because those are problems anyway but don’t entertain talks of war.

We need to get the drugs under control and loosen the stranglehold over our own economy, better fund the military and stop treating criminals like victims.

Exactly. AND stop talking war. This is what we should have been doing anyway. The interprovincial trade barriers are idiotic.
