I had a thought yesterday as I was up and out of the house and on the road much earlier than usual. I was surprised to see so many other people travelling at such an early hour. Where the heck was everybody going at 6:00 AM? I was thinking while I was driving about all of the social ills that we as a society are experiencing of late, and remember thinking that these early risers are definitely not the problem...or are they?
Let's take homelessness as an example. Homelessness is not the problem, it's a symptom of a lack of money. In all fairness though, the lack of money is not the real problem, it's a symptom of a lack of employment which is something that my fellow early risers do not have. It has been stated by some that the lack of employment is not the real problem, but is a symptom of excessive drug use... something that our political systems and social networks seem to be helping to facilitate.
Are our politicians and social enablers the actual problem?...or are they just a symptom of something much greater? They could fix these social dilemmas if they wanted to...right? It would seem however, that the majority of our local, provincial and federal politicians have organized a cabal of like minded socially fixated enablers whose goal is to change the way we collectively experience this thing we call life.
Should we be worried about the future? What started this gradual change? Is this change a problem or a symptom of something which might be more devastating?
Maybe all those early risers are the problem. They are much too busy providing for their families and striving to obtain their own goals than to get involved in politics and governance.
Maybe we are the problem.
