I need a good gutter guy. I need a good chimney sweep. I do happen to know a good carpenter that is available for work.
Perhaps this is a place where we could share some worthy information.

It's so hard to find decent work these days.
(Good idea for a thread.)

Who can vouch for a household plumber, electrician. gutter guy, window washer...etc?

I had a lot of success asking the wholesalers for suggestions. If someone is paying his bills promptly and does enough business that his name comes to mind when a recommendation is requested, he's probably a safe bet.
I think Irwin Industries does gutter cleanings. They were my go-to vinyl siding guys back in the day, and we found them to be good value. Bernie Osborne Electric did very well for us, too. I can't recommend any plumbers because of potential conflicts of interest, and don't know of any window washers. I would check with the janitorial supply place near the Cloverdale/Blanshard/Oak intersections.
Hope this helps.

I looked high and low through the various threads and could not find one dedicated to the fine people that oil the wheels of our local day to day infrastructure.

Good point. The purpose of the thread is to share experience for the benefit of others.

Unfortunately, I don't have good (i.e. any) experiences with escort services. Or is that fortunately?
I can recommend excellent landscaping and painting contractors and know a good carpenter though.

This is a great idea Dave. I can't believe that I forgot this trick. A friend gave me the use of his condominium in Hawaii a number of years ago on the condition that I install a fan over the bed.
Mrs. Sparky thought I was nuts when I got up early and stood in the parking lot of the local electrical wholesalers......asking if anyone would like to earn some extra cash tonight.
Sure enough one guy said OK, he gave me an hourly rate that I could live with, we went into the wholesalers and purchased a fan on the cheap, he arrived at 5:00 PM, he installed the fan, fished the wiring, and it was all over and we were drinking Coronas by 7:00 PM.
Nice.

Carpenter, Dont know who is good but I would not recommend MAC reno, they did decent enough work, but ripped me off.

I know someone who used Mac Renovations for a redo of a basement suite. The whole thing was ripped out and the plumbing, electrical, new drywall and floorings done in 4 months start to finish. The work was good, on time and slightly over budget because of upgrades made by the owner as the project progressed. They co-ordinated all the trades and took the stress off of the owners.Dont know who is good but I would not recommend MAC reno, they did decent enough work, but ripped me off.

For gutter/roof cleaning and window cleaning(in and out) we rely on Paul Meyer who has a 1 man company called Picture Perfect Window Cleaning. Reliable, honest, fair, highly reccommended.
